Still out and they don' t have any estimates yet for restoration.
I'm loving that little inverter generator.
Ran the big one till 11:00 then switched over to the little one for just the fridge and a light. 8 hours later I had to put about 3 quarts in it.
Ran the big one for 3 hours this morning for breakfast and showers then back to the little one again. It will run the fridge, TV, and the wifes computer and internet all day on a gallon. Will fire up the big one again for the evening til 10:00 or so.

Repeat until power is restored.

Glad to here you have everything you need Greg. Sounds like a good set up you have.

Our power went out just before dinner last night an my 8kw standby kicked on. Was feeling pretty smug until I noticed I only had about half the flow coming from the hot water spigot. It was a head scratcher for a few minutes until I figured out what was going on.
I have a couple zone valves in my DHW system that direct the supply to the coil in the storage tank or to the oil fired superstore depending on the temperature of the storage. I wasn't burning but storage was about 175 degrees. When storage drops to 120 degrees, zone valve #1 closes and zone valve #2 opens, sending cold supply to the superstore. What I found was that zone valve #1 was only about half open.
At this point in time I have not figured out why. Output voltage is correct from generator and power appears to be quite clean. I'm hoping it was just a coincidence. I have a bypass on each zone valve but I spent all that money to have it work automatically.
Power was restored about 3 hours later.

What brand is the generator?

I have a friend who is in the business. Kohler and Onan have real "clean" power. Others.. like generac do not.

some stuff will run.. but all kinds of issues. Modern refers, computers, washing machines.. just won't accept the power to run the electronic components.

My Troy Bilt will run everything but the washer. I mean it will try to run but will not go through all the cycles. I'll try it on the inverter tonight.

Generac

With the generator I used prior th this one, the LEDs on the EKO controller would strobe and flash so I used 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter. I say "used" I actually installed it but I never had the need to use it. I didn't get rid of it when I installed my standby because I felt it was a good tool to have available.

Sorry.. I guess this is the point where the truth hurts. There's a reason the generacs cost less. They use cheaper stuff.

I would bet a 50 dollar bill that the heat issues you have are being caused by dirty power.

If that's the only problem I have, it's not the end of the world. If it doesn't operate the zone valve correctly and no one is here to correct it we will also not need the hot water. I'll be checking it out to see if the problem re-occurs.

It was close to 60 deg here today, weird. I guess it was a "tropical" system. Wind kept me half awake all last night but at 4 am I got up to start the generator & made my damage rounds only to be quite suprised how un remarkable they were. A big white pine took out a 3ph line a few miles away for a little 16hr rest for the electric meter. Any one heard from infinitymike? He's on Long Island NY. Hope all is well for him.

I have tried starting a conversation with him through Hearth. I thought I had his phone # somewhere. If and when I find it I will try to give him a call. He is probably smoking busy between home, family, business, and possibly has no connections. This monster did a lot of damage.

Mike. Let us know if you get a chance. BE SAFE FRIEND.

I placed a call to him. Got sent to a mailbox. :( Left message. But he is Infinitymike. He will be okay.

Lost our power in North Pocono, N.E. Pa. Monday night 10 P.M. . Back on 45 hours later. Kudos to PP&L!! Amazing. Sat in the living room Monday night/ Tuesday Morning waiting for the roof to blow off the house. Worst winds I ever heard. A few trees down just shy of the house and cars but no direct hits. New Jersey and N.Y.C took the brunt of the damage. Hopefully all is OK with all. If you don't hear from members located in those areas keep your fingers crossed for them. Especially long island. Lots of water went ashore.

avc8130 - Glad to here you and yours are okay. Get some of dat firewood!

b33p3r - Glad to here you have no major damage! That is great.

Chuck172 - !!! Yaa baby! Isn't funny how if you have a generator it is kind of cool when you lose the power and you get to use it. For about the first day. Then you realise what a pain in the _ _ _ everything is and when the power finally comes back on you are so friggin glad it did! ;lol Looks like you were without it for 6 days? Wow. We have not had the power out for more than two day since the ice storm of 98. I lost it for a week then, others had it out for over 2 weeks. And it was January. _g Thankfully for those folks they had shelters open. Glad to here everything is okay. Will you be grabbing some free firewood because of the storm. We lost like no trees where we are. I am glad for it though. No damage at all here.

During Ice storm '98.. A lot of people were out for weeks.

After several days.. one enterprising woman put a 4x8 sheet of plywood out at the side of the road. It said "CMP - You service me, I'll service you!"

Her lights were on shortly after. Coincidence?

LOL

I lost like about 15 big trees. Uprooted. I jury rigged (cabled) a giant red oak that could have hit my house and killed us.
That one is coming down very soon professionally!

Glad to here that one did not cause you any problems Chuck. And that it is coming down. Will be some good BTUs in a about three years!
