Simple things can bring me the most joy.

For the first time I cooked on the stove top. Eggs for my wife, french toast for me. And yes, they tasted better! LOL.

WARNING! Now you've done it. Expect to be doing lots more over the winter months. One of my favorites is when bean soup is put on the stove to just simmer along. Yummy!

Looking forward to doing a pan-seared rib eye in the stove again this year . . . with the olive oil, cast iron pan and the bit of "flavor" from the coals those were some of the best steaks I have ever eaten.
 
Deer chili is my best dish with my stove. It simmers for hours and its great.

I have not tried a big meal on the stove yet just sandwich.
 
sounds deeeeelicious ! I just tried cooking on the stove for the first time. I just boiled some water for mac & cheese. But now I know its possible I will be doing it ALOT more ! Do you guys use a surface temp thermometer of any sort?

I use an infrared thermometer. I turned the stove (electric) on and took temps on different settings (med, med low, etc.) and then shot my stove top before I put my pan on it.

I didn't think anywhere near this much... I just figured the pan is either "hot" or "not hot." 550+ stovetop on the 30 is roughly equal to "high" on my electric cooktop, or "hot."

Looking forward to trying a steak right on the coals, though. Methinks the hickory is the right wood for that... :)
 
I noticed that I like to keep a few pieces of quick burn (cottonwood for me) wood handy, to get the temps up.

I did a grill cheese with ham sandwich at lunch today too.
 
Perhaps I should take some pictures sometimes. Most times I easily forget them....

As for temperatures, we have the condar thermometer on the stove top but also have an IR if we remember to put batteries in it. Also, yes, it can matter a lot what wood you are burning when cooking but we tend to do things that are on for the long haul.

"hot" or "not hot" lol Thats how I use my woodstove right now... no thermometer at all , OLD SCHOOL ;)
