A happy cat.. Stove top barely reached 200 and I engaged the cat,,, it took right off. Air is set a 3/4. has anyone ran their Fireview lower then that. Stove top is climbing towards 375,,, flue gas has climbed from 400 to 450. Wondering if I can close the air setting even more? No smoke outside, pipe doesn't even look like anything is burning. Amazing. Well I know my wood is nice and dry.

Wow, beautiful install charly! I love the Fireview as well and I noticed I have to keep my draft at about 1 to 1.25 but we haven't had any really cold days here yet. I tried to do .75 but it didn't hold up well and the flue and stovetop temps dropped too much. I know what you mean about the "No smoke" from the pipe, it's amazing huh? We are in the 60s here today and the next few days are going to be 65~70° so I won't be burning for a while. I just bought some ecobricks from Tractor Supply today to suppliment the wood and see how they burn, I read some pretty good reviews here so I want to try them out. Good luck with your stove and keep posting your results and more pics. Great job!

Dennis,
Notice my flue runs about even with my stove top temp. Too much draft? Do I need a damper? Stove and flue are at 450 . Hard to believe I have to much draft,, I go out through the wall and up a 22 ft insulated liner. I'll have to watch and see when the stove hits 500 if the flue temp is still matching up. Just don't want to waste heat up the flue. Guess I'll just lower the draft if need be. A learning curve for sure.

I think too many folks are too quick in installing a damper in the flue. Just turn the draft down a bit further. No doubt come colder weather you too will be running the stove top at a higher temperature than the flue.l

I'll keep ya updated. I'm loving this stove!!!!!!!!!

That's lookin' mighty good, charly! I had a hard time choosing between the charcoal and the metallic blue but went with the lighter-colored blue in this setting. It looks like light grey, with maybe just a hint of blue...not like the pic on the website.

I've got 17' of insulated liner in a masonry chimney, stove is rear-vented into a tee, then up, so one 90*. 22 insulated feet is apparently enough to overcome three 90s...
RIght now, primary air at .75, 450 above the combustor, 300 on the tee snout, 175 on the vertical section of the tee. I put a damper in when installing, but never use it. I'll probably remove it when I get a chance...
When I want a low burn, I can cut the air all the way. I'll need to burn down some coals at the end though...don't like shoveling out valuable cordage.

EDIT:
Just shot the bottom of the snout...160. I guess heat rises. ;lol
Woody , are you saying you can close the draft completely? I'm almost thinking with so much heat in my pipe I can really close her down a lot. Flue gas temp always seems to be ahead of the stove top temp. Ahhhhh,,,,, maybe the stove top is always playing catch up?

Great looking install, makes me miss my old Fireview. What kind of thermometer is that in your pipe? If those temps are internal I think your fine. External pipe temps will be lower than stove top temps but internals are closer to the stove top. Keep playing around with the air settings and you will find your sweet spots, I usually ran mine a little bit under #1 and it would give me a good 10-12 hour burn.
Todd , it's a Tempoint thermometer. Used as part of an oil burn test kit. You can buy them separately. I have one for the Esse too. They can be calibrated too, hot water and check the reading. Comes with instructions. I like it because you can glance across the room to see a easy reading. Plus it's accurate. Drill a quarter inch hole, and hang the mounting barcket into that hole, then slip in the probe, it's a nice interference fit so it doesn't roll to the side, nothing, stays right where you place it. Usually 100 dollars found a place the other day for under 70. I'll try to find it again and post it on here.

Todd , here's the best price I found, most places are 105 dollars for the thermometer.

One question,,, stove is on it's second day ,,,I'm still getting some kind of paint smell, is this normal? It's definitely not smoke smell.

You will probably have that smell each time it hits a new high temp and fully cures the paint. Mine quit smelling after it hit 550 or so

Stoves been up to 500. What a nasty smell. Windows have been open for two days,,,, still nice heat;lol

It took about 6 fires to get rid of that smell and that was after my breakin fires. It takes a while but it will go away, trust me.....

That's good to hear that the smell will leave soon. This stove is a riot to run after having the Quad 5700. Tonight I reload the stove, it's at 250 degrees, let the flue gas get up to 350 degrees, close the bypass and set the draft to .75. I check back a half hour later and she's taking off,,,,,amazing! I'm learning already that the trick is to not burn the new charge of wood too much, just a little and then close her down. This stove is soooo easy to run, kind of set it and forget it. I can see this stove is going to be a lot nicer to run then my Quad 5700 was. No doubt!

Be careful with that flue probe. I use to have a teltru probe that read from 200-1000 and when the Fireview is in the bypass mode it has no problem getting up to that max temp, I had to keep a close eye on it. I've been looking everywhere for a more accurate flue probe than the Condars, I wish they made a thermocouple with a dial face.

I originally had one for my Paxo 60 boiler, and it's been pegged a few times by accident. But I really never leave a stove once it's wide open. The Fireview had the probe to 700 in about 15-20 minutes, so I know what you mean Todd. I'll take the nice start up draft. I can tell you the drafting ability of the Fireview shames the Quad 5700 I had. Woodstock really did their homework designing their stoves. Boy Todd,,, I just love this stove, so much better then I thought it would be. Just goes to show the difference between a mass produced stove and ones that are hand built, one at a time. That would be a good Woodstock ad,,,,," After all these years hand crafting stoves, we still build them one at a time"!

Charly, I don't remember any smell from the stove when new but we did have a big problem with the black flue pipe. It just did not want to go away and we were all ready to change it when suddenly it quit. But every time we lit the stove for several times we could see the smoke coming from that black pipe. Hardware guy told me they sometimes get that but do not know why and if it did not go away he would replace it with no charge.

Smell is getting better. Had a fire going all day today, even though it was 60 plus outside. Just left the windows open. It's definitely a paint or cement smell curing, not smokey at all. I know I keep saying it, boy do I like this stove . 11 hours of heat on silver maple. Not to shabby.

Charly, I just started a fire again a short time ago. Yesterday's high was 70, which is unheard of for this time of year around here. Today is a bit different as it is 36 degrees....

Same kind of high temp here Dennis. This morning was 36 , snowing and raining right now. Woke up to the house being at 70. The Fireview is like always throwing off heat. Shamed my steel QuadraFire 5700 stove big time! Night and day difference getting heat from a steel stove verses a stone stove. You know what I love, I look at the stone like a deep cycle battery, even if you burn pine which burns quick, your storing that quick heat into the stone, so even though it made for a short fire, your getting a long heating time back out of the stove. I should have bought one of these stoves to begin with. And some people doubted that the Fireview couldn't match the Quad 5700. The Fireview is walking right pass the Quad with ease of use, heat output for burn times, and the amount of wood needed. You right Dennis, the Fireview is using about half the wood the Quad did. I've been putting in 3 pieces of wood 3-5 in diameter wood verses the Quad wood have had 6 pieces 22-24 inches long verses 16 for the Fireview, stuffed into that big box. Just goes to show, you can't beat a hand built stove. Boy am I ever happy. Even after a 11 hour burn , when you walk it to the stove room, some how you can feel that mass being present heat wise. Amazing! Now I know why no one sends these stoves back!:)

So glad you decided to go with this beautiful stove, and are already reaping the benefits! Reading your posts reminds me of nothing so much as the pure joy of a child on Christmas morning. They bring a smile to my face...an early Christmas present. Hope you enjoy your Fireview in good health for many years.

Yes Rideau, This stove is great. I guess it just goes to show how much the Quad 5700 wasn't. All my past posts were nothing but disappoint with the Quad. 36 this morning and now 40 out, had to open some windows, Fireview had it up to 74 in here, running at only .75 on the draft. Should have put one piece of wood in instead of two;lol.

That is sure is pretty excellent pictures by the way. Nicely done. I'm thinking of going with the Manchester from hearthstone.

Well , I'm progressing along with the learning curve of the Fireview. Tonight I loaded the stove up and shut the draft control down to ".5". I must have a good draft as the cat is glowing and the stove is now up to 425 degrees, with a 350 stack temp. I believe I'm starting to find the sweet spot. At this rate my wood consumption will be half of what I used with the Quad 5700. After burning the Fireview, I truly believe if you had two separate rooms at a stove shop, one with a stone stove burning and one with a steel stove, people hands down would prefer the stone heat. It just so pleasant. Kind of feels like the sun warming you on a nice fall day. I'm still blown away by how nice this stove heats on such little wood, plus it's a breeze to run.

Great job!
Enjoy your stove as well. Thanks for the nice compliments. I was watching some ghost flames tonight, fire looked like it was out and then all of a sudden a burst of flames. Even notice some ghost flames up behind the screen tonight , and at the same time the fire looked out. Pretty amazing things going on. 34 degrees here right now, suppose to hit the lower 20's tonight. Once it gets colder , I'll bet you'll be able to run your draft at .75 or lower. I just notice my flue temp was running neck and neck with my stove temp, so I figured I had a strong draft so I felt I wanted to see how much I could close my draft down and still have the cat fire off. Good luck with ecobricks. Let me know how they burn.

I was just reading what causes combustor failure in the Woodstock manual. Poisoning the combustor with non wood products. You might want to check with Woodstock or maybe someone will chime in here, as far as burning the ecobricks. Hate to see you ruin your new combustor.
