What is this?

Can someone please tell me what this is? I found this in my ashpan.

What does it do and where is it supposed to be? Should I not use my pellet stove?

I don't know that stove, but it kind of looks like a clean out cover of sorts. It should be easy to spot where that's missing from, but you're likely missing a screw too. Check the ashpan.

Looks like that sliding door from a thread a couple of days ago. It had something to do with getting stuck with a fines build up and a funny noise. You might try searching for it or wait for one of the resident experts to arise.

Take a look at your owner's manual & see if there's a schematic. Maybe you can ID it that way...

I think it's the thing, under the ashpan, that controls intake air. Stove is running right now so I don't want to remove ashpan to check, but I'm pretty sure it goes under there where the air opening is. On our stove that air space is completely uncovered (open).

This is what my stove looks like for that area. If it is that piece that is missing, why would it be in the ash pan?

Thats where the stove gets its combustion air from.

The CAB doesn't have a gasket on the ash pan, so there are many leaks into the system
Its to help fine tune the stove. I wish my Quad had one

(Edit: looking at the pic, it was never attached properly. Remove the screw and put on. If the stove burned fine before, I wouldn't adjust it).

My husband thinks that it could be this piece. The piece I found and the piece in the stove match up from end to end, even where the screw is. There's a small lip tab on the inside of the fire chamber, and he believes it may just be an extra from the manufacturer, floating around in the stove. Our dealer said it may have been a metal scrap from the manufacturer.

X2 it was probably not installed to begin with.....the stove pulls air through that hole under the ash pan{thats why the stove sits off the ground a tad} and I have never adjusted ours.....We also have an OAK installed to bring outside air in,but as Dex says,its not a sealed system,so the firepot is getting air from several locations..

And that hole is also the reason why you only use the cleaning rod with the ash pan fully inserted in the stove otherwise you'll mess up the air flow.
