Hi all,

My 039 is the first saw I've owned with an adjustable oiler - what is the best typical setting? I turned it out to max oil flow now that the temp is getting colder - figured that temperature would be a major driver of the best setting - any other info you might share of when to adjust the oiler would be appreciated. Thanks. Cheers!

I usually leave mine at max flow and use winter oil when it is cold and regular for the rest of the year. Not sure what others do but I don't worry about my chains getting enough oil.

My thought too - as long as I'm not running out of oil before I run out of gas, I figure more is better. I have notice though that when it's rather warm, the extra oil seems to cause more clogged sawdust in front of the clutch. Cheers!

Depends on bar size, but more is better.

I have the 390 too, my oil setting is on max (clockwise to the max) I have never run out of oil before gas since having it . I usually run the 20 inch bar.

As said above, max it out with the most important thing being that you do not run out of oil before running out of gas. Don't fill the gas "totally" full till you're sure you are ok with your max oil setting. You should be ok, but it doesn't hurt to cover yourself for the first tank or two.
