And I don't mean the pellets.... I recall the first year of my stove I cleaned the ash out and washed the glass every other day. 3 years later I manage to clean the ash out every 4 or 5 days, and I wash the soot off the window every other time I clean the stove out.
Am I the only one who's gotten this lazy about making the stove look good? I also only clean out the whole system (chimney and all) once a year. Who's gonna come and shoot me for being such a slug? ;)

I clean out ash in my stove every 5-6 weeks and clean the glass once a year.

After six years and >6 tons of pellets I finally cleaned out the combustion blower.
For the glass I use the best invention ever - baby wipes. Probably once a day.
And I shovel out the ash on the sides about once a week.
On the first point - I only found 1/4 inch build up on the blower outlet that was easily brushed away.
Exhaust vent cleaning - I never had the stove in one area long enough to require cleaning - as it was usually just disassembled and reassembled somewhere else. I finally have a home for the stove and I'm very happy. Cannot wait to ram the leaf blower up the vent and watch the outside cap blow clean off the roof :)

My first year (last year) I kind of looked forward to the weekly cleanings. This year I don't look forward to them but once I get in and start cleaning, it issn't so bad. I do wipe the glass down each week and empty out the ash pan every half ton or so wether it needs it or not. This year I will clean the combustion blower every month or so which is more frequent than last year (never did last year).

Baby wipes? First I have read anyone using those. You still must have to shut the stove down and let it cool before using right? Have you figured out a way to clean the glass while hot?

Babywipes are one of the best kept secrets. Don't tell the kidless folks - let them suffer.
I use them for everything from electronics to computer screens/ tv's tiles, stove tops, oven tops, glass etc.
I use the non-scented one LOL.

Yes I always let anything hot cool down first - like stove tops or glass/ceramic before using the wipes.

Edit - and the wipes are great in cars - I was using them before armor all came out with their own car-centric wipes and way more economical.

Yes, Very lazy this year. Stoves been in duty since early October and I still haven't clean it yet. over 26 bags through it. Maybe this weekend, maybe. ;em

You been too busy fishing! :D
Buddy of mine was out ice fishing yesterday. Not sure where though.

x2 on the baby wipes!

We just had our 2nd child 2 weeks ago. We'll be buying wipes for a couple more years, and I'll be set to keep my glass looking clean!

I once put 26 bags through mine on low fire no less, man did I feel bad doing that.

The stove looked like it had no glass to view the fire, very unsatisfying. So I gave up trying to keep up with imacman and cleaned the stove.

Friends don't let friends operate dirty stoves, clean your stoves and vents people.

I have no reason to have baby wipes in the house and don't want to have a reason! Oldest is 31, middle is 29, and youngest 22!

My three are 10 years older than yours Tom and I definitely don't want any reason to have baby wipes around all the time either.

Besides a damp cloth and the pellet ash works just fine and you don't have to buy anything.

You two aught to be close to start using them again, hey! ::-)

Stove cleaning is something that I do on a rotating basis.

The large Whit gets the fire box and the glass done weekly, the inner baffles come out every other cleaning along with the vent getting sucked by the leaf blower too.

The little Whit gets the fire box done every 3-5 days depending on the useage.

Just the way it has to be to keep things running smooth and efficient.

I find that keeping the glass cleaned regularly makes it far easier to deal with, rather than letting it go.

I like to see the nice fire too.

Baby wipes??? nooooooooooooooo mine is 31 now.

I use Fantastic spray and a paper towel to clean the glass.

Burning nut shells as we do, the stuff on the glass is more like what forms on the oven window.

The Fantastic does a great job with minimal effort.

I used to use SOS PADS but the squirt juice cuts the scum right off.

Wow. I don't know if I can let the stove go without vacuuming at least ONCE a week. On average I like to vacuum/clean and dump out the ash twice a week regardless of the amount of ash or what I'm burning. I usually vacuum all the ash traps in both stoves every other week. Anything less and I start neurotically checking flame size/sparks show to make sure my burn is optimal. Maybe by next year I'll mellow out but for now I'm still in the honeymoon phase with the stoves. Plus staring at the flames through clean glass is so much more enjoyable then through soot/ash.

I understand that that honeymoon phase goes poof real fast like.

Enjoy it while you can.

I use car window wash, even though Windex say it's no good for windows.

Its easy to get lazy with the multi feel. The agitator keeps doing my job and pushing the ash right into the ash pan. makes me lazy

Im at 22 bags through the Quad (21 and 22went in tonight). And have 4 through the Fahrenheit.

Haven't touched either yet. My Ash pan is Full! Its gonna be scraped off the top of the pan when I pull it out.

I have only pulled the pot dump 4 times (maybe 3?). I dont touch it much.

Fahrenheit may not get anything but Ash pan dumped this season. I abused the Quad last year and am putting it through an even harder regiment this yr.... :)

I went at half ton intervals before touching them last year. Still ran/run great.

Those baby wipes work on gown up rear ends too...Sometimes the situation calls for baby wipes...and god bless my wife for having them in the house ;D Oh and I also use them to clean the car dash when I'm stuck in traffic.
