I have the Appalachian 52 Bay insert. This will be my first winter using it. There are only about 2 or 3 people on this forum that are using them. I like mine.
It took me alittle while to get use to how to operate it correct way. Many thanks to the people on this forum. Last year I was using a pre EPA stove and it was hard to break away from my old burning habits. Not sure what you would like to know about the stove but maybe I can answer some of your questions.

Why I should or should not choose them over Buck, or any other brand; quality of construction, operational reliability and folks overall satisfaction with the product. They look nice but looks ain't everything.

I lives a few miles from the plant and I have been there. It is not a very well run operation IMO. I have a set of gas logs that they have serviced in their "lab." When I was shopping I refused to even consider that brand.

I got that feeling, not a 'class act', from their website which is why I ask about them on this forum. I figured some of you fine folks would have the lowdown on them.;)

I grew up with a geminXLBW and the stove was great in fact it is still in use and it is 21 years old. I have also installed close to 50 inserts from them. They are nice stoves if you know how to run it correctly. However it is difficult dealing with the company and getting parts in a timely fashion. Also the quality control lately hasn't been all that great. The other thing is I seem to always be replacing cats, secondarys, and blowers frequently on the units. This however is due normally to homeowners overfiring their units. Also if you are interested in the 52 the bay windows get black pretty quick with creosote and you will be cleaning them frequently. When I would clean my chimney each year I would get only 1 cup of creosote. That was pretty awesome. You also burn a lot less wood compared to a non cat unit. I hope this helps.

FWIW, I've read the same thing about the bay windows on the Buck. Probably true for most bay window designs. . .side windows are not covered by the air wash that keeps the front glass clean.

I have an Appalachian. Over the last few years I have called them about 5 times for different things, they never answered the phone, and never returned my call. Their customer service is basically non existent.

I would look elsewhere personally!

Customer service is the pitts, the girl that answers the phone can be right down rude.

I got my 52 bay this past spring and once I got the kinks out of it, it has been running fine. I would say a Buck stove will have better customer support, but the stoves are pretty close in terms of manufacturing and use. If you like to read I have a link to my review of the Bay 52 in my signature.

Servicesales.com on the other hand had great customer service and helped me get the needed parts, I bought the stove because it was a deal and at the time no one else had one on here.
