Love, just simply love the Stirling Engine "Heat Wave" fan on my old VC Resolute. Get the box up to 450... it starts spinning. Anything above 500 the engine is pushing air 15 feet across the room and warming the whole house.

I bought this one from an outfit in Alabama maybe, oh, 6 years ago. They're gone, kaput. I have been looking for another for a couple years.

Cleaning out my junk mail box, I had an e-mail from gyroscope.com - they had stirling engine wood stove fans in stock! I hit the button immediately and paypal'd 'em. Hopefully I'll see it in in the next couple weeks.

I figure if one fan is good, two should rock! ;)

Says sold out .. Popular I guess but damn pricey!

Yes, pricey, but built to last decades and useful. Cheap, really.

they are silent - not sure how much air they truly move but they are cool. My friend has one and I understand they last forever!!

Ahh... the one down-side of the top-loading stove. All the cool trinkets fall off every time you step on the pedal!

It does look well built and quite a bit bigger than the ecofans.

Is the unit very noisy? I thought I heard some clicking noises in videos I have seen.

I have one. It makes a little noise but not enough to be bothersome. It is a cool fan (no pun intended) and it moves more air than the ecofan, but it really doesn't move enough heat to justify the cost. It is mostly a fun toy. The most useful thing about it is that it stops spinning when the stove top temperature dips below 300 degrees, giving an easy visual clue that it is almost time to reload the stove. Overall, I like it, but if I could do it again, I wouldn't have bought it and I would have rather saved the money.

Well... When I first got my Heat Wave stirling I thought it was a cool toy...then I thought, huh...it is warmer in the dining room. Time for science!

Without fan, 15 feet away with a 500f fire...65f after 30 minutes. With fan, same, 72f. I also put Pyrex bowl of H2O in front of the fan...it just fits. It really helps keeping things from drying out and keeps the humidity up. Previously I had a stainless steel bowl. It sang like a siren at 650f. Pyrex, I found, is silent. I throw it in the dishwasher weekly to keep the scum at bay.

Getting ready to move...my old Resolute will be very carefully moved. As will my stirling engines!

True--I think the fan is much more productive at those stove top temperatures--mine typically runs at 400-450 (or lower) and produced considerably less air movement at lower temps. If I ran it hotter I think it would move a lot more air.

I have a love, hate relationship with Stirling Engines........ We design and build them for NASA and they cause me lots of headaches and 16 hour days ......lol!

Box showed up and was waiting when I got off work today. Snow on the way home.

Foreign sender... then I opened the box... to find my new Stirling Engine fan! Wow... nice work. About the same size as the old one, but roughly 1/8" shorter than the old one. Fan size is the same.

Within minutes, I had both Stirling engines wailing. Photos to follow...

The instructions on the new one says "no lubrication necessary"

The other one needs oil, but no whales will be harmed to make it. Sigh, if only they could use Deer. I'm not fan of Bambi's... I ride a motorcycle! We have plenty enough to worry about!

O.k. Finally. Moving this stove in the next few days, thus the mess around it. All safe and cool mind you. The dog magnet in all it's glory!
