help with defiant stove pipe setup

Hello every one i am new to the forum.Here is a little background. i have been burning wood for 34 years i had an Olympic crest stove and recently i discovered a piece about the size of my fist broke out of the back of the stove stove. I went out and bought a new Defiant 2 into 1 stove and now i am having trouble getting the stove pipe assembled.Here is some of the problems. number one i have a defiant 8 inch oval to round starter. the pipe they gave me is ribbed on one end and smooth on the other the smooth end will not fit over the round of the starter. my old stove had a different style pipe which will fit it has no ribs on either end of the pipe it has about a inch or so of pipe before it hits a ridge on the pipe one end is a litter wider so it will fit over a smiler pipe and the other is a little smaller to fit in a pipe. this is what i need. up at the ceiling i have about 10 to twelve inches of pipe coming down one of my pipes slips over it and can slid up for removal of the pipe when needed. this style pipe they gave me will not slip over the starter and it will not slide over the piece coming down from the ceiling i am totally frustrated and i am not sure what to do i need to have pipe similar to the old pipe can any one help. I had a good run with the old olympic and right now i am lost with out my stove

The ribbed (crimped) end goes down, toward the stove. It should fit into the oval to round adapter. I'm not sure if you have all the right pieces to make this work. Do you know what brand pipe is on your system? Can you post a picture or two of your setup?

BeGreen thank you for your reply hwere are a few pictures one is of the oval to round starter from Vermont castings bought from the dealer if you look you will see that the top of the round wants to go over not in it will look like crap if it were inside. What i need is different pipe i have also enclose pics of the piece coming out of the ceiling which slid into the old pipe and could be pushed up for removal i really do not want to mess around with that piece i do not know what ill run into under there. also showing is a picture of my new stove with old pipe the bottom of the round pipe was just pushed into the oval of the new stove that is how the old stove was. on this setup the pipe does not go up as high on to the piece coming out of the cealing this stove was two inches lower then the old Olympic. I was hoping to change every thiong but that piece coming out of the ceiling

I'm not real sure what you mean here, but all the crimped, or male ends should go down. As if you were gonna pour water down the pipe and you wanted it to end up in the stove. I would change all the pipe if I changed any of it. It looks like you have an Ameri-Vent chimney system. That last piece of pipe should just be slipped over the adapter. They now make a new adapter that is attached to a piece of chimney. The old one just sat in the box and the chimney pipe sat on top of it, and could be dislodged if not careful. If your chimney can be pulled out, I would add the new adapter and then new 22 gauge stove pipe.

The piece coming out of the ceiling is the problem, not the pipe that you are trying to connect to it.

A major issue here appears to be clearances. That faux brick has little protective value. Single wall pipe needs to be 18" from combustibles and the stove needs 15". The pipe needs to be changed to double-wall connector and the stove needs come out from the wall or a proper wall shield needs to be behind the stove per the manual. Not sure about the hearth as it is not showing in the pictures.

Are you saying the crimped end of the oval fits over the outlet on the stove? It needs to fit inside, and it will, but it often takes alot of struggling to get it in there.

I had an Olympic crest stove for 34 years and it was even inspected by two insurance companies there was nothing said about Clarence. things have changed over the years. I guess back then it was different. as far as my problem the part from vermont castings the oval to round starter is worthless it wants the pipe to go over it. I think I found a fix for it first off my pipe is of the welded style and has a one an eight od. duravent has pipe with the same . They also have an oval to round pipe which you ovalize your self by just pushing it into the oval on the stove. with the one and an eight pipe the piece coming out of the celing will fit into the duravent pipe this should put me back to the way my old stove was hooked up 34 years with out a problem

Things haven't changed with clearance to combustibles. I replaced an old stove that was 8" from the combustible wall, and all the stove pipe was upside down. They had a home inspector and there insurance guy sign off on it. He even measured! What did he measure for? Unless it has a label saying otherwise, it's 36" to the stove and 18" to the pipe. It also had an old Ameri-Vent chimney that had moved off of the adapter, the outer wall of the flue was filled with creosote. Very scary! EDIT: It was a stove replacement for a customer, not my own.

It's not worthless. It is the proper way it should be done.

That doesn't mean it is the right or safe way to go about it.

The clearances that have been brought up are a legitimate concern. There are many reports of homes being burned to the ground due to not adhering to clearances.
