Glass cleaning

I'm reading here where a lot of you clean the glass when it's hot with dry paper or cloth. Doesn't it catch fire from getting so hot. Probably a stupid question but I'm afraid to try it. I'm also tired of shutting the stove off and waiting for it to cool before cleaning the glass. I once tried it with a wet cloth but there was a lot of hissing and smoking plus the ash kind of dried and stuck to the glass. Since then I've only been doing it when cool. I can't stand dirty glass though.

Doesn't catch fire. The glass Is hot but not that hot that it will start the paper towel on fire. Never try cleaning warm/hot glass with a wet towel.

i had been using water and paper towels (then buffing) all last year. but i just recently started using just a dry soft cloth.
i let the glass cool a little. but i clean it before i vacuum the ashes.

i guess it depends of what kind of ash a given pellet produces and the burn of a given stove.
but if you're currently using water, it might be worth a try just using a dry soft cloth.

i actually vacuum the edges of the area surrounding the glass first.
the ash on the glass isn't really adhering strongly. and it serves to polish itself off when i buff it with the cloth.

it's so much faster. and the glass is sparkling clear when i'm done.

i would guess we do. hasn't been above freezing for some time. though not super cold yet either.
we have some below zero nights and single digit highs in the coming week though.
i'm just a newb to the state. and not much of a fisherman. so i don't know the actual condition of the lakes. my neighbor said he might go ice fishing around now though. guess that can count as a provisional yes to the ice question

I use wadded up dry newspaper to clean hot glass. The soot comes right off.

The glass cools real fast, when the door is opened.

I have an abundance of white hand towels (I travel alot and can't resist a towel or 2 from nice hotels) that i fold amd use twice daily to remove the ash from the glass. I just open the door and wipe while running. Every 4 or 5 days I shut the stove down and do a fast vac and a good glass cleaning with the Rutland cleaner/polish to remove the soot from the lower portion of the glass.

I like to clean the glass a couple of times a day too so doing it without having to shut down is great. I think I'll try some #0000 steel wool for the stubborn spots. I see other people on here say it works good and doesn't scratch the glass

Not nuts just anal. Just like opening the hopper to check the pellets and "needing" to top it off. And yes, I do that too.....

I had trouble cleaning the window of my Mt Vernon when hot. Paper towels, dry cloth, newspaper couldn't get the ash off. Wet cleaning, of the cooled glass, worked quite well with paper towels. After hearing about Rutland stove glass cleaner, I decided to try it. I love the stuff. I have used it three times now when the stove was cool and I find that I can easily get the hot glass clean with a dry paper towel. I normally don't go for specialized cleaners. I'm glad that I came across this one on the forum.

Doesn't really get very dirty at all I just like super clean glass. Retired and it gives me something to do besides sitting around drinking beer all day. Besides if I drink to much beer the glass starts looking hazy and I'd probably have to clean it three or four times a day.

i'm going to be very interested if my glass gets more difficult to clean when i burn the softies i have.
the mwp blend may make lots of fly ash. but it wipes right off with a dry cloth.
and i can honestly say the glass is super clean after doing that.
