Wherever we're parked
Once again, on January 1, I am planted firmly in front of the TV in the partly finished basement with the entire "Lord of the Rings" Director's Cuts. Started before 0800, & will be done about bedtime. My yearly trip to Middle Earth now has me in the Mines of Moria...("Fool of a Took!")

Enjoy those are Great movies:)

I thought my son's were the only ones with that kind of stamina. We're waking up slowly here to a beautiful sunny morning. The last dog is still on the couch.

Looks like a GOOD time was had by all;lol Great pic!

Nice way to spend the day. Those are my rainy weekend "go to" movies. I have the book "The Tolkien Companion" that I flip through during the movie for more in depth explanations of characters, locations and just about anything else in the movies.

I have a good friend who just went to New Zealand for a three week tour of the Hobbit. He loved it and saw where the movie was filmed, met many people that were in and part of the movie. He loved it, has lots of pictures and videos of everything. He even bought a replica of " the ring" from the man that made the ring for the movie.

Wow Daks that's somethin.... I love Tolkien, read them all but don't think I could take 10 hr of nonstop movie.

Wow, now that's dedication. My hubby is a Huge Tolkien fan, has original stuff from when he was a kid. Last weekend we went to see the new Hobbit movie which is almost 3 hours. It was good (we saw it in the new high rate film speed and 3D) but sitting still that long kills me. Sitting 11 hours, I cannot even imagine it

We are dedicated Tolkein fans. Read the books when I was in high school. It was my first hardbound book collection. I saved for months to buy them. My kids read my books when they were in high school. They will probably do the extended version marathon next weekend.

Last weekend we saw the Hobbit and I have to agree with you Jeni. It was about 30 minutes too long and a bit too heavy on the effects. I would have preferred to see it in 2d too. The 3D stuff at times seemed heavy handed and distracting. The sound was also muddy at key points when the dialog was important. Love the ring but stretching the short hobbit book into 3 long movies is serious overkill.

I was all psyched up to see the Hobbit, but the reports Im hearing, even from huge fans of the series are disappointing. When I heard it was going to be a trilogy I was shocked... How are they going to stretch a short 300 page book into 9 hours of movie?

I also have lost interest in the 3D craze.. A long film in 3D gives me a headache.

Peter Jackson took some liberties & added some of his own twists to the tale to give it more screen time. I''ve read the entire 4 book compilation 10 times, so I may be considered a fan. as far as sticking to the Tolkein story line, meh...Entertainment value is a 10

Edit: Did NOT see the 3D version...

At several points in the movie I removed the glasses and watched it in 2D. The movie is bloated, but my sons loved the epic, long battle scenes and it's grossing well at the box office, so it certainly can be considered a success. The first time we went to see it, the theater was overbooked and there were no decent seats left. We walked down the hall to see Lincoln which was exceptionally good.
