Cubex is not a bad pellet, but it is also not what it used to be. Cubex is owned by Lauzon Inc., out of Quebec. They are a hardwood floor manufacturer and years ago made pellets strictly out of their own flooring sawdust. As a result, they were great pellets and they charged a premium for them. Somewhere, several years ago, with the increase in demand for pellets, they started to buy outside sawdust and blend it in with their own in an effort to increase production. Still a good pellet, but not what it was, and they still charge a premium for it. Why not?....it has a great reputation from several years back.
Well said!;) I can't speak about any of the new production runs of Cubex because my current stash is a few years old. It's funny though how things change from year to year and batch to batch. An example.......I bought 6 tons a few years back and noticed a difference from pallet to pallet. Don't get me wrong, they have all burned great for me. All the Cubies I was using in years past had the bag with the tan colored interior, all of a sudden I started seeing a bag with a white interior and the pellets were much lighter in color. They smelled like birch or maple and burned like an acetylene torch! I got a great deal on my tonnage back then at 230.00/ton. Now that some of these fuels are reaching the 300.00 plus mark, I will re-consider future purchases. Of course, with almost 7 tons of assorted fuel on hand now.....I have plenty of time to consider:)

ok guys, I just got off the phone with Hamshaw Lumber and here are the details:

They carry
Cubex @ $255
New England @ $249
Barefoot @289
Okies @$289

They will deliver anywhere with 100 miles of the store for $16 total, no mater how much you buy, but the catch is that they will deliver when they are going in that direction, so it could take a few days before they head your way. For that price I can wait. The pellet shipper (Cindy) seems real nice and was happy to answer my questions. I am going to clear some space today and then order 1 ton of each.

lots of ash would not buy again specially for the price

Which ones are principle?

I have some from last year that burned well, the ones I have from this year did not burn as well. The ones from this year didnt burn bad, but they did not burn $90 better then a $200 pellet. The ones from last year burned better never bought them before last year so thats my only comparison.

I had about 15 bags of Cubies last year. Burned ok, nothing to write home about. I thought they were a little dirtier pellet. I would put them in the sam e class as a MWP or Presto (which is not a bad pellet I would buy them but not my first choice).

Another place where you may find Cubies if you're interested is we have ACE hardware stores around here that stock 'em. You may find a decent price there if you have those stores in your area.

I do have to say though that I am a convert as far as Somerset. I bought 10 bags last year and just got around to them this year. They burn nice and hot and the stove is a lot cleaner. Makes me wish I bought more. - (That's a heck of a score on Somerset pellets OMV by the way)

One other thing I noticed about the stove dealers around here (in NE PA anyway) their prices are the same whether its August or January. I asked my dealer about that and their answer was they are not really in the pellet selling business, they do it to support and promote sales of the stoves so they don't try to make a lot off the pellets based on the time of year.

Just my 2 cents....

Yeah, I noticed the same thing recently. A couple of the Agways here and up in Binghamton used to run spring Early Buy specials, but not the last 2 or 3 years.

Ok, just received my stove hampton GCI60, and my chimney kit today will be doing install tomorrow. I was planning on picking up a ton of cubex, seeing they have a great track record, but now I'm starting to rethink. Maybe I'll just grab a few bags. Agway was selling a couple other brands at same price point, maybe i will grab some of each. I just wanted to start my pellet career off with a know winner.

Welcome to the club. I have a GC60 FS stove bought last November. I love it.... I think buying a few bags of different brands is a good way to go. I am also rethinking the buy. There is an Agway not to far from me so I might be doing the same.
