"Muffler" for Rigid Shopvacs and side note to DexterDay

DexterDay.....thanks for your info! I can run the combustion blower during the cleaning juist as you do. I also realized how I was getting the black dust on my mantle. Many times I would streach a 7 day clean to a 9 day clean (because of stuff going on) by using a small paint brush, I would slowly and carefully brush the entire inside of the stove down into the ash bin. I never realized that a lot of ash was coming out the door. The fix...stop doing it.....no more black dust on the mantle! ******Muffler, I picked up a "Muffler" $4+ bucks at home depot for the rigid shopvac, haven't tried it yet....has anyone. I suppose it will make my vac sound awsome and add a couple more HP....he he! Thanks, Bill

is the muffler to cut down dust in exhaust or to stop air movement??
if you are getting dust in the exhaust you proabaly want to get a hepa filter
also why run the combustion blower and blow all the ash into the chimney pipe???
I run the vac with the hose in the door opening and suck it in that way
the dust is so light and fine the vac sucks it right in

Ironpony, I do use a Hepa filter in my vac, it was my manual paint brush cleaning that was allowing dust into the house. It was (DexterDay) who suggested cleaning the stove with the combustion blower to make sure any excess dust created while cleaning gets sucked out the exhaust. I think he thinks that cleaning can stir up dust, some of which can come out the front of the stove. I haven't heard any negative comments from anyone else yet.... A HD rep who said he was familier wth the "Muffler" said all it does is reduce the noise level.......Bill

not trying to be negative just trying to find out some more details which you answered
you have a HEPA filter so exhaust air is very clean
the muffler is for noise
when I use the paint brush I stick the vac hose in the bottom of the door and suck out the dust that way
the only negative I see was sucking all the disturbed dust into the exhaust
I think it would tend to settle out in the pipe, unless it is just a thru the wall exhaust
mine has a 5 foot rise before exiting and I do not think the combustion blower sufficient to remove the dust
I have thought about it but yet to try it
