BK Princess Info

I am seriously looking at a replacement stove for my upstairs/main living area and the BK Princess seems to be a fine candidate. It is a 2.8 cu ft firebox, cat and nice view of the fire. Has a long burn time to get me through those cold New England nights. But even looking at the brochure I can't tell what the outside dimensions of the stove are. Height, width and depth.

Any help on the dimensions? Also, what was the "out the door purchase price" I will go get it in Mass and need to buy in Mass in order to take advantage of the Mass "smoke dragon" subsidy.

Any other observations/input, gladly accepted from owners of this stove. Or, please point me to a thread that might supply most of this information.

I just went to the BK site and found this. Maybe you were in the wrong spot. You can also download the manual from that page which, if I'm not mistaken, will also give firebox dimensions as well as install clearances, etc......
I got quoted around 2700. It was an informal quote for an Ultra. HTH

Yeah, those figures are incorrect, at least the height. Sort of a BK screw up there since the princess is offered in a few trim levels. The ultra is up on a pedestal nad just under 34 5/8" tall with the top of the flue collar extending up a little farther to 34 15/16". Click on the owner's manual link and look in there where they provide detailed schematics and dimensions for each of the three trim levels.

The princess has been great for me. It's a serious heater for people that heat full time with wood.

One of the things you will love best besides long burns and controled heat is the deep firebox. The deep firebox makes it safer and fewer times needed to clean out the ashes. It will hold a lot of ashes!

Just a heads up, read the fine print in the rebate program. You have to have the stove shop install for the rebate. I prefer to do all my own work, plus, I'm not sure how much it will cost to install, but its got to eat up most of that $1000.

I'll have to check out the BK thread and thanks for the dimensions. So it's actually got more depth than width. I guess loading through the front is not problem and you can easily do N/S & E/W.

I'm intrigued by the thermostat function. Does this prove pretty useful and reliable and not just a gimmick?

Just a heads up, read the fine print in the rebate program. You have to have the stove shop install for the rebate. I prefer to do all my own work, plus, I'm not sure how much it will cost to install, but its got to eat up most of that $1000.

Ah, I didn't read the fine print yet. Thanks for that. I was going to pick it up and do the install myself to save the coin and also know it would be done right. That may delay my purchase a tad.

The firebox is wider than it is deep but the depth is almost 16" so you can load it either way. I never liked the idea of chucking splits in there sideways and shutting the door fast so that they don't roll out.

The stat actually works very well. Mine seems quite responsive with obvious changes to the fire and heat ouput. Some people don't notice much stat activity but since I generally run my stove low and slow I get more action. BK has been making stoves with stats for decades with the same basic design, I would say it has been tested and deemed reliable.

You mentioned earlier that you thought it offers a nice view of the fire. Well, no it doesn't. Not unless you run it hot and if you plan to run it hot all the time then you will either be overheated or you should have bought a bigger stove. When run full time at lower outputs there is almost zero flame show but plenty of heat and long burn times. This is a drawback of the BK, to be honest.
