My cousin just finished this. Any ides of type of wood? (Hes not saying what it is)

That was my first thought. Not sure I he would want to hide that fact though.
Only thing I could imagine wanting to "hide" is if it were sweetgum.
I've never seen it milled so I couldn't tell you. It's used in substrates for veneers for alot of furniture

It's a nice looking piece of furniture

I'll take a wild stab at it and guess Hickory. This pic is Hickory:

Hickory is interesting. The custom cabinets in my home are all Hickory...but much more uniform in color. Hickory comes in different "flavors". Rick

ETA: From (if I may be so bold) an accomplished amateur woodworker, let me send along my compliments to your cousin for a beautiful piece of work. :)

I'm saying hickory too. But some of the catalpa that I cut before sure looked alot like that too.
I hope it isn't catalpa, it'll be dinged and dented up in no time! Beautiful work, BTW!
