In The Woods
It's been a bit since I did some cutting so if Mother Nature melts enough snow I might be able to get this Cherry I started on either Saturday or Sunday.

Oh, I love Cherry. That looks like a good one....clean. Was it dead Zap?

That actually came down (some hung up) in the Micro Burst of 2008. I worked getting all the wood down on the property I cut on the most.

I started this last year, it's on the northside of our property the house is on.

For being down that long, it sure looks good. Wish I was there with you and taking a load home. I threw some Cherry in the stove tonight as matter of fact. Great stuff.

Funny, being a scrounger (although I have several woods to cut in) I drag home about anything. I don't separate it either. Year before last, I had a pile to split that was a a bunch of small scrounges that had cherry, hackberry, ash, maple, pin oak, honey locust, and maybe even a few more in that pile. Well, it went in the wood shed this winter after some 3 year old oak and hickory. So the first to burn was the oak and hickory while it was still pretty mild. Now it is colder and I am to the mixed stuff. Go figure. Every day is a surprise:) That said, I just adjust and burn. Never been cold yet.

I really like burning cherry, great wood decent heat and easy to light. But i learned the difference in heat output. Big difference in a load of cherry and a load of oak or ironwood on a cold night.

That ironwood or oak will make that needle move much quicker than the cherry. When we hit the cold streak we had we burned beech, it felt nice.

The warmer weather is back so were back burning cherry.

I'm excited scored permission for some cherry I've been eyeing for bout 6 months. Haven't cut any cherry since last November and was disappointed to not have any for next year. Have lots of maple though. Will be able to burn some in a few years now again :)

Zap, the warm is coming. They keep going back and forth on our forecast. The latest one says we will hit 59 on Saturday. Yesterday we hit 45 and today 41. Not much snow anywhere, but then, we haven't had much at any time this year.

I took a look this afternoon to see if I can get close to the cherry, looks like I can get the rhino close enough. This weekend will be even warmer so I might wait until Sunday.

Nice work to be done ZAP. I wish I had some Cherry on my family's property. I am jealous.

I see you're cutting ash, what type of hardwood do you have the most of on your family property?

I think we have more cherry than anything.

The property is almost all Pine. White Pine, Red Pine, some Spruce. But the White Ash has grown in on it's own. So the hardwood is almost all White Ash. A little Elm. It is all nice splitting wood. I burn mostly Ash. Some pine. And sometimes I buy from someone I find advertising on Craigslist, if the price is right.

Sounds nice. On our property if I want beech it's in one area, sugar maple in another area, the cherry seems to grow on all parts of our property.

That project looks just right for a Sunday afternoon. You'll get it all done and tidy and still have time for a snooze on the couch

It looks like Sunday if I cut that cherry, it's still frozen in. The temps on Saturday should be in the low 50's then on Sunday 56.

Since we had plenty of snow we will take the January thaw.
