Ya gota love those slow over night burns with the green wood and then the beutiful fire shooting out of chimney in the morning, I love the smell of a chimney fire in the morning.

I've been burning it with my "just split today" ash and it's been a great run of fires, nothing like I've ever had before, now I'm spoiled!

I got some this year too. I love it--its like a whole stick of butter (any old SNL "coffee talk" fans out there?). I use if sparingly--I want to save some for next season.

There's a local guy here that has mix hardwoods for 100 bucks a face cord that is kiln dried and guarenteed to be within 12-15 max... I'm thinking about buying a face cord to try out.... he mainly sells to the local stores with the 5 bucks a bundle crowd... who buys that stuff anyways?

My tree guys aren't burners but they know wood and sell what they cut, mostly green for sure. They don't want to screw people so they do meter the wood they sell so folks know exactly what they are getting, no surprises. As I am sure it is everywhere these days, "seasoned" means anything from 20-35 and it's usually closer to 35 :)

However, every now and then, they come across a customer that just needs to get rid of their stash, for whatever reason, usually because their liners/chimneys are shot and they aren't in a position to fix it. I've given them a lot of work over the years as well as a lot of referrals so they are good to me :)

Buy one of those $5 bundles to test it first if you aren't sure about his quality. There is a guy locally that has a skid of those bags dropped in his driveway so he can just carry up bundles as he needs them, no cutting or stacking. He's got a fireplace to make pretty fires though, not heat :)

Was that a comment directed at me? I'm not going to have a chimney fire, my just split ash is between 22-25, still more seasoned than anything I can buy "seasoned". I'm also burning it with pretty big kiln dried splits, see previous pics, that when re-split and metered are around 10%. I'm not worried but thank's for your concern :)

" I had my tree guys at the house yesterday to take down a dead Norway Maple and none of them could believe I had three years worth of wood at the house. The both like to have some green wood for slow overnight burns"
Hearth Mistress (love the name) no you are doing fine the quote was from flatbedfords posts, I should have quoted it the first time, just trying to be cute.

No worries oldspark (Grover is my favorite SS character), I didn't see that post. My hubby and I do, well used to do, a lot living history events, 15-18th century stuff. I was usually one of the few women and almost always the only one that could cook on an open fire or open hearth. Hearth Mistress is a term of endearment from my hubby. I have an executive job and tell people what to do all day for a living, which can make me unbearable sometimes! He loves the home body that I really am, the chainsaw wielding, log splitting, fire tending side of me, the "other" woman -mistress- so to speak :)
