I had a customer call me saying the stove I sold him in 2009 is making to much ash (owner installed venting).... I went to check on the Big E and found it very full of ash. It was a grayish fluffy type ash and to me looked great. I asked what the issue was and he told me the stove is making to much ash. I AGAIN ran through the process of how the stove works and pointed out that no where in the stove is a mechanical component to make ash. The ash comes from the pellets having complete combustion.

He told me that he was told by unnamed pellet burners that his combustion blower was "weak" and needed fixed cause it is not taking the ash from the stove. I was again told that "these people" do not have this problem with their stoves. I pointed out his 3" venting that is in a raised basement consisting of a 7' vertical and out the block wall is clear, the stove was dirty with the air chambers full so they needed cleaned but the stove appeared to be running great. But he could not believe the pellets were at fault.

I asked about heat output and he loved it saying a bag last 16-18 hours on level 2 and only a few times he needed to bump it up to to level 3. I again pointed out that his owners manual says the burn pot needs stirred and the glass wiped daily.

I hate selling stoves that run good, NOT!

Nothing is more frustrating than having customers call with problems diagnosed by friends. There is a cliche in business that "the customer is always right." Situations like this only go to reinforce that if any business lives by this cliche as a rule 100%, then the customer will always be right up until the business is out of business.

he probably read it it on the internet and you know they can not put it on the internet if its not true.
probably on of them stove forums........like hearth dot com...... all sorts of opinions over there

BONJOUR!

if I had a nickle for every time I issued a challenge to the nameless "someone" to compare what they think, to what I know...I'd be like $2 richer...well, maybe $1.85 richer.

If you are lucky you get less than 20 pounds of that stuff for each ton burned and if you are getting more than that you need to stop burning what you have, get a better pellet, clean the stove out (really well), and burn the new stuff.

I'm pretty sure of that last statement after all it is in a thread started by a stove dealer on an Internet forum.

I can't believe nobody here has tried the new ashless pellets. They're sold by the same company that makes the clean energy machine that sits in your basement and makes megawatts of clean power using nothing but a glass of water and a cup of horse manure each day.

It musta been a loose connection in the Ash Inhibitor Circuit. (AIC)
I believe it it located just under the Proof of Pellet Snap Disk near the Dial-a-Flame Wheel.

Or perhaps a Faulty 4-speed Combustion Blower.
Sounds like settings 2 (Turbo), 3 (Leaf Blower), and 4 (Ash Remover) are not functioning.

If I read the Troubleshooting flowchart correctly.....
....Step 34...Obtain a large cardboard box.....
....Step 35...Place Stove into cardboard box (step 34)....
....Step 36...Return to retailer....
....Step 37...Admit you are not qualified to own a pellet stove....
....Step 38...Call oil man to fill tank.
