My wife loves the heat and the ambiance of the fire. She does a good job running it when I am not around. I do all the css, cleaning, and maintenance of the stove which is fine. She has decided she would like to try turkey hunting with me this spring. I can't wait it will be her first hunting experience. There are plenty of birds around and I can tell she is looking forward to trying it. I often spend an unreasonable amount of time hunting and fishing!

Wife is learning to run the Esse cook stove,,, oven by pass, pipe damper, primary and secondary draft.... depending at what stage the fire is in will determine if just the oven by-pass gets close and the pipe damper left open, when your using the oven, etc. She's learning,,, the other day I came in from our property while snowmobiling with my brother in law, and his wife and mine had the cook stove all reloaded and running along nice,,,, I'm moving her to the Fireview next,,, that will be very easy for her.... I keep asking her, what if I drop dead tomorrow, would you just walk away from both stoves because you didn't learn how to use them? Maybe she would just pay the oil man if I was gone? I keep kidding her that she would get another man that's a wood burner;lol

My wife starts maybe five fires per year, so I guess you can count her as a woodburning wife. If there is any need for a fire I usually have the fire burning, so it is hard to say how much she'd use the wood stove if I wasn't already using it.

I am a woodburning wife, does that count?
I am the wood burning wife too since I work from home, I tend the fire all day long. On the weekends, I reluctantly let the hubby do it but he isn't as good as me

I run our stove most of the time. My husband processes the wood and brings it in, although I tell him that I'm willing to help and can bring in a load of wood, he prefers to do that part himself. But I start the fires and keep it running.

It's nice to see you both have an interest... Maribeth , my wife helps with the wood splitting, stacking, etc too... she has no problem with that... She's even loaded up the racks in our back room with wood when I've been out... A common interest sure makes things a lot nicer...

My wife tends to the stove more than I do.She is the one that cleans out ashes and gets the fire going.

Gotta chime in here....I was the one "pushing" to buy the woodburner...HUBBY LOVES IT!
If he goes missing during the evening, we can usually find him parked in front of it toasting himself.
I bought hubby a log splitter (bought him the one I wanted), he loves how it makes life easier--and
won't let me use it!
He cuts and stacks; I haul it into the house and keep the home-fires burning (I work at home).
One thing we both count on: if we have doubts or questions, we get on Hearth.com to
learn!

I have a woodburning husband. He's the lucky one that gets to work from home, so he tends the stove during the days-but I'd probably kill him in a fit of jealousy of he sent me pics of a nice warm fire while I freeze my butt off in the cold corner of my office. Seriously, I wear texting gloves here. shesh.

The stove was my "must have" and I am the sole reason it was ordered and scheduled for an install before we closed on the Cottage. He wasn't against it, but he didn't feel it was nessesary like I did, lol. There is something indescribably perfect about sitting on the couch with a fire int he stove, enjoying 75 degree indoor temps while it's 20 with a 25mph wind outside. It's just how it's supposed to be.

I did make sure we had a saw and splitter too though. He runs those, I stack, move rounds, help scrounge, help bring in the wood (although he's been doing that this year since he's home when it's light out!) and tend the stove nights and we share weekend duties.

Its funny.... after a week of burning the stoves been off a couple days... Now my wife realized her cough is just a cold picked up from the kids and back to a 68 degree house she says "hey you can put the stove on if you want too..." I'll convert her eventually ;)

My wife had to bring the wood in as a child. Now she starts the fire in the fall. She thinks she's better at it. I process the wood and keep the woodbox filled. I hurt my wrist the other day and my 8 and 10 year old daughters have been bringing the wood in. Talk about whining. I hope they appreciate what I do now. Haha.

WHAT? Women tending to the fire? That's crazy talk. I mean the next thing we know women will want to be able to vote . . . and work . . . and drive cars. Crazy talk I tell ya . . . women being able to tend the fire . . . who would ever believe such a thing? ;)

Right? Bic even came out with a pen for her. You should read the reviews on Amazon.

I work a 24hr shift. My wife has no problem running the stove on her own.
I was telling my wife about this thread last night. She told me her friend, Oleta, still loads her own stove. Oleda is ~65, had her arm and shoulder removed over the summer due to a cancerous tumor, three ribs were removed and used to construct a shoulder. And she still works full time.

My daughter was hell bent against the stove, now she's the biggest fan. She will even tend to the stove when she's home alone. My wife loves the stove because she grew up with one like I did. All in all it's a family affair!

My neighbor Millie turned 91 this December,, up until this year she was burning wood during the day...all winter long,,, stove is in the basement,,, one her husband built years and years ago with a hot air plenum....her grandson loads the wood by the basement walk in door and she does the rest, bringing in and stacking it....man she's a worker... this year I think the stove burning is over for good...What a great woman,,, her husband was a test pilot for the P 51 Mustang fighter planes...she loved stacking and burning her wood...

I have been running the stove but a couple of times over the past several months she has said "I don't really know how to run this stove." I told her that I thought she could run it, no problem. She's watched me do it often enough and I've described to her what I'm doing with the stove, but she's not comfortable with it yet. If I space out ramping up the stove, and the load takes off a bit, she'll say "Is that too much flame?" I say "Good eye." >> She's run the Dutchwest in the past and has reloaded the Buck 91 at her mom's a couple of times (with me walking her through it on the phone.) I've wanted to get her up to speed on the Fv and comfortable with the procedure, but just haven't done it yet. It's about time. I think I'll have her reload the stove tonight and cruise it. I'm sure she won't mind if I keep hauling the wood in, though. ==c

I thought my wife would be so against it. Totally opposite. She can start it, load it and clean it. She is not interested in splitting but will stack.

I went out this morning with the stove totally out and 57 degrees outside. I came home to the stove being lit and the house warm. I think she is more into it than me!

If I have a long day at work the fire might go out hours before I get home. My wife will freeze her butt off and not even consider that she could just throw a log on the fire to stay warm.

If I send her a text to do it, she'll gladly do so, but for some reason it's not the first thing she thinks of. I suppose it would be different if the Wood stove was primary heat, and not secondary to the NG Furnace.

To quote my wife, 'Ooph, its hot in here'. She's
only done 1 reload this year.

No B.S., the oil man showed up with 92 gallons at 6:30 this morning. I got to hear her complain about that too.
I told her there was a solution to that.....

My wife is set on wood. She can't see why anyone would even have propane for a backup, because wood keeps you warm no matter what.

I re-split with my little Estwing fireside friend. I used protective glasses and gloves. It is a great work out tell her. After she splits, she can tell you what muscles feel it and it not just upper extemity , but legs and caboose!

Yeah, my wife is great, I keep fireplace gloves and enough wood for reloading near the stove .

Yup! I just got back from the barn picking up a cartload of wood since we were getting low in the garage. I hookup a cart to my JD garden tractor & out I go.

Now sitting here looking at a nice fire & thinking about getting dinner started.

I do all the c/s/s and get the fire started every morning, but as long as I keep a supply of wood & firestarters around, my wife keeps the stove choochin' all day. At least when the weather's cold enough...

This is basically how we operate.

But I have to say, my wife has really come through this week. We have had a really cold week lows in the single digits and day time highs in the teens and lower twenties. Our heating pipes froze Monday night so we don't even have the option of using the boiler. Thankfully my wife has bee loading the stove while I'm at work for 12-13 hours/day. She's done a great job of keeping everyone warm. Thankfully we oversized our insert for the square footage of this drafty old converted beach bungalow.

My wife is the daughter of a city fireman...freaked out by fire. Last march when we got the stove she hated it. Now almost a year later she loves it...hates it when I get a bit of smoke that has belched out on a reload, but she takes extreme pride in keeping the heat going.

I just wish I could convince her to pack it tight. She insists on one split at a time.
