I grew up w/ 65 degrees in the winter. When oil was our only heat(pre stove) we kept it at 60.

I work in data centers. I've grown very sensitive to heat. During the summer I hibernate in the house, AC at 67 or 68.

My "Win a Ton" are complete garbage...I can't wait until they are all gone and it's taking forever since I hate burning them...They are barely tolerable even for being free.

Imfigured that contest was a scam, At least somebody always won some loser fuel

I'm not touching this one! You boys have fun, But play nice "OK"! >>

I burn them (in the form of Green Suprems) and am happy with them for fall & spring. I think as you try other brands you might change your opinion about them "being the best". IMO can I suggest trying Vermonts, some dealers here on the coast sell NEWP for $265/ ton, if you can get Vermonts for a little more I think you will be pleased on the cold nights.

Just my 2 cents enjoy burning.

I don't sell. I just used Energex and some other crappy Home Depot pellets. These are the cleanest and hottest I have experienced.
Was that Inferno or Green Supreme?
My 1st 2 tons were NEWP, Never again....Those things could knock the stink off of a sh!t wagon

Mine all came from the Schuyler...people have said the ones from Jaffrey are much better.....who knows.....Purely based on what I received, I would NEVER go out buy these pellets.....ever.....
I have pretty much the same stove and the Green Supremes (same as NEWP I believe) burn very hot but are dirtier than the LaCretes I also have!! Go figure?

I cry a little on the inside when I see people paying $260 to $275 for NEWP when they can go to Lowes, use a coupon and get them for $188 as Green Supremes. Especially since they are really only worth about $150 a ton IMHO.

I have to say this year's NEWP rebagged as Green Supreme at HD at about $209 a ton aren't bad. I have them burning in both of my stoves; a Lopi Leyden and a Harman Accentra. I have good heat output and decent amount of ash to clean, more in the Lopi than the Harman, but they seem to work well. In the past I have burned Cubex and Turman's, eh? No huge differnce for me for the price paid.

I won a ton of NEWP two years ago.:) They were middle of the road pellet, heat was ok, ash was a little much but the price was right. Currently I am trying to burn off the rest of my Energex American so I can use some better pellets I have next. My insert doesn't have alot of room for ash, so I am kinda of partial to low ash pellets. Hamers have been the best performer in that regard.

I tried some Vermont pellets early in the season. They were decent but for some reason this has been my best yet. After reading the good, bad and ugly on this post I'm guessing that pellets are like anything else, pure preference. Dang people are opinionated and brutal. They are pellets people!

don't let em get to you geppapa . they feel that their preferences apply to every one . i won't even bother to tell them .... naa not going to bother ;)

It'a the same with most pellets. Take MWP's. Some people like them some people think they're junk. Personnaly I don't have a problem burning them, especially at $177/ton.

Yeah. But Pellets are NOT created Equally.

Pellets are based on Fiber and Density... Which means every brand is different.

And a lot of us measure the output temps out of our stoves (I do with a K type thermocouple) and Green Supremes are at the far end (lower) of the scale. I haven't burned any this year. Its based solely on last seasons Green Supremes.

They burned clean... But on the low end (one of the lowest temps i have had) of the temp scale.

Every stove, install, and user is different. All results will vary.

This topic makes me curious - we bought a Harman and four tons of Freedom Fuel four years ago, then a tornado went through the neighborhood which gave us enough firewood for three years. We started using the Harman this year and the four-year old Freedom Fuel hasn't given us any problems. Because I've been reading about different pellets on this forum we sprung for $8+ for a bag of Lignetics from our local hardware store and found that they didn't generate as much heat as the Freedom Fuel. We did try some Maine pellets from Tractor Supply which we liked better than the Lignetics. I'm really curious b/c Freedom Fuel has such a bad reputation on this forum and Lignetics such a good one.

Seriously, after burning Energex for the past couple months I decided to try New England Pellets because I heard they were pretty good. Holy crap! These pellets burn so clean and hot! If you have never tried them, I encourage you to do so.

I'd rather eat them then burn'em! :p

SUB where on earth did you get them for that price??

HD. $197 with a 10% military discount. I also got a half a ton for $167 with a 15% military discount.

4 year old pellet batch likely doesn't burn the same as a current year batch of the same brand, pellet makers that don't have control over their fiber tend to be inconsistent, some of them can't even get batches run the same year at the same plant to burn the same then try things with the same pellet brand made the same year from two different plants.

I don't even want to consider all of the possible combinations out there these days.

We have 2 tons left - would it be better to buy pellets now or wait until May? Would anyone have any recommendations for pellets in the Concord, NH area or Lakes region?

Thanks for all the advice. We've saved so much money from the advice from these forums.

If you have the room and the money, buy anytime you see a good deal. I hear a lot on hear about spring sales, but I've never seen one.
