Really can't complain to much. So far winters been pretty mild, Just rough on the shouder pellet stash. Gonna need more Timber Heats or PTL real soon.

BTW, I like them Timber Heats, Burn a lot like the Dry Creek's of old. Not really a shoulder pellet IMHO either.
I agree. Except for the snow, it hasn't been too bad (did we just jinx ourselves? !!!)

I gotta bring in the last ton of GT's from the storage shed....probably tomorrow. I just stopped at Lowes on the way home from work....no Timber Heats to be seen:mad:....I liked them a lot too. Just the expensive GT's, and poor GS and North Amer. <>

Take a closer look at the btus/$ comparison. I clean my stove at least every other whether it needs it our not so the ash doesn't bother me. I'd rather save my money. After all isn't that what most of us are burning pellets for anyway?
are you really saving money burning more pellets with a shoulder to get the same heat as a higher end pellet that burns less fuel to achieve the same heat?

There are some pretty good lower priced "shoulder" pellets this year.....some put out almost as good btu's as the high priced stuff. Greene Team, Somerset, Presto-Logs, Stove Chow, and Timber Heat (Dry Creek) have all been above average for me this year, and most of them can be had for $209/ton at big box store.

Yes. Has been discussed many times here.

No PTL at HD? Even this years FSU are pretty dang hot/clean. If I didn't have these options I'd be getting more PowerHouse from Agway or CTpellet for just a little more $$. Luckily I'm spoiled with decent stuff very close by.

I agree GS and NA are not high on my list either. But they are better than Inferiors! :p

You can give it to me! ==c jk

Military discount problems? I though someone said there was a work around? They do except the Lowes coupons too.

Military discount problems?......

Well, I really have to go use it there....don't want the kids to think I didn't appreciate the thought. They actually got it thinking i would use it for pellets.....are my girls thoughtful or what!

As for the military discount issue, yeah, I've heard you can get around it, but just the fact that there are "conditions" on our military & Vets irks me no end. HD also has other policies that I'm also opposed to. Lets leave it at that.

Gotta give a couple local TSC's a call and see what they have these days.

Agreed, Corporate policies are much like politics. I'd rather talk pellets! ;)

Curious to what your TSC have in stock, Mine only has Northeast from Ashland Maine. They seem OK(softwood) But I'm leary since they are using recycled wood from pallets and such. I'd rather MWP or AWF even.

three nights of -15 with three days of 0 for a high this week.
good time to test the mwp softies.
burned them last night with the feed gate still closed all the way. just opened it a bit as the flame seem lower with them compared to the blend.

Get a clip clothes pin, put it on your nose and use that card to get some pellets at HD.

In my local area, we are using a "trial" military discount. You put in your tel. Number on the promo code in the screen when you swipe your credit card. 10% off. Some exceptions. HD has on again off again etc. military discount polices. I got 15%off MWP =167/ton earlier. My son paid 197/ton. Mine were delivered no charge for three ton purchase.
Can't figure it out. HD is surviving where new Lowes are going out.

Exactly.....drives me nuts. ANY present military or Vet should be able to show military ID and immediately get 10% off ANYTHING, ANYTIME....PERIOD!!

They started a thing where you signed up and they sent coupons via e-mail. That only lasted for a few months before they e-mailed me and told me to sign up at the store again and I would only have to show my ID at the checkout. I signed up and bought pellets once but haven't had the need to go back since. Hopefully that still works.

Well, brought the last ton of GT's into the basement. This should get me to springtime:

I just switched over to GTs myself today. Getting ready for the predicted cold snap and two snowstorms this coming week.....

I switched to my 2010 stash of Somerset's, grrr, going to brrr ass cold by midweek here.

Always burned NEWP, haven't tried anything else, only b/c every spring I place the same order (habit). Anyways, how far off is The NEWP vs a hotter burning pellet?

If I had to guess...
30deg day = a bag every 20hrs
15deg day = a bag every 15hrs
House stays @ 71-72

Starting into the two ton Turman tower today. 12 bags of Old Dominions on the side...they may stay there a while. I think I could get more heat and less ash from the plastic bag. Not happy with the ODs at all.

Trying to post pic. Can't seem to figure it out.

Gotta love the Turmans. I liked somersets also but i burned through them a little quicker than the turmans. I dont know how many bags i have gone through but the bottom of my ash pan has just gotten covered and it has to be 3 weeks or so of burning. At this reate i think i can fit 2 tons worth of ash in the pan. I get a little ash clump in the each corner of the pot that i take out and thats about it. I felt they were worth 250 a ton so i bought 5 tons and i might use half of that this year.
