Wal-mart just lower the price on the pennintons from $5 to 4.18 a bag $209 a ton for the rest of the season I'm told that price is for ALL stores, I guess they felt the heat from lows and HD

I agree with above posts, my pot looks like that with all the box store brands except when I use hamer's then it's white dust. The issue is $209 a ton verses $260

Here the pellets I'm burning 4.50/bag if you buy a ton. IMG-20130118-00169.jpg

Any change w/ stove on 3-6-1? If there's still plenty of heat, you could also try taking the LFF down to 2....2-5-1

On my stove if I would run 2-5-1 or 2-4-1 I would just have burning embers with a small flame every time 4 or 5 pellet pop out..... 3 6 1 is what I run when it's 45+ outside and you do get a dirtier burn than 641 but it don't cook you out of the house.

The burn pot looks very much the same this morning on 3 6 1 and the heat setting at 3 overnight.
Been doing some window shopping on the net and came across these pellets, can anyone tell me what they think of them by reading there specs.

Rona just finished a sale yesterday, they sell ecoenergetic. There okay, I've burned about 6 tons in the last couple of years with no ash issues. Last time I asked at Home Hardware they wanted $6.99 a bag.

The lower 3 button settings only affect heat 1&2 i think... atleast on my 25 pdvc as far as i know.
That is on the older model stoves. In recent years, Englander has revised the control board on most models to include all heat ranges. The OP's stove was just purchased last fall

The Granules LG have always seem to get pretty good reviews. If you can locate 3-4 bags locally they'd be a good one to test burn. Any other brands locally you could post for us to give opinions on?

Presto Logs have been pretty good this year....somewhat better than a shoulder pellet. If you can get them cheap at HD, I'd get some. BTW, just because it's on the website does NOT mean your local HD has that brand.
You are correct on that, I called my local Home hardware and they do not carry the pellets at all and even said they wouldn't bother bringing them in.
They are privately owned and I will have to locate a store that does sell them:mad:
Can you please explain what a shoulder pellet is?
Think I will grab a few bags from H Depot.

....Can you please explain what a shoulder pellet is?.....
A shoulder pellet is a brand of less expensive pellets that still put out fairly decent heat, and are primarily used during the "shoulder" season of fall & spring when there isn't a lot of really cold days.

Best of luck to you with the Penningtons...... I have 2 tons and I really don't like them. I've been blending them with Somersets on not so cold days, running Somersets and Greene Teams for really cold days.
My Convection air temps with straight Penningtons is 150 to 170 degrees F. This is with the blower on 5. The somersets run between 200 and 220 with the 'Sets with the blower at the same speed.

I wonder if his LFF is too high.....I Don't have the same stove, but my LFF is on 1 and LBA 6

I don't use them regularly, when I'm at Wally I always get a bag to put on my shoulder pile. Don't want to waste my hamers on warm weather.

The LFF was at 6 when I got the stove and I turned it down to 3 with the help of Englander customer service, i wouldn't want to make it any lower because on heat setting 1 i have a very small flame almost non exsitant more like a glow. My LBA is at 6 right now.
I thought I read some where that if your LBA was to high you are actually pumping out heat from the stove and its going out the vent pipe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I increased my LLF to 4 from 3, so I'm now 4-6-1 and in a 24 hour period the glass stayed pretty clean I still scooped out the burnpot twice but with the new bags of pellets I'm using from HD. Things are looking better.

i've tried many differant pellets and tired all kinds of differant setting on my PDV
but lately i run it at 4-5-1 or 5-5-1 and it seems to like it

but no matter where i run it i still have to clean my burnpot twice a day

Thanks to all that help with there suggestions it really put me in the right direction and I know a little more about my stove. Knew I signed up to the right forum. :)
