I went down the road to start working on the downed stuff at my buddy's place. Found a mixture of hard maple, beech, and walnut to make up about half a cord so far. There's so much more to work on in this woodlot and I want to be done with all c/s/s by July 1st. We'll see how it works out.

The sooner you can be done with it the better. I don't like c/s/s wood in the heat or the bugs. Nope. Not one bit. Have done it a few times and won't do it again. Good work fireview2788.

Yep couple of warm Jan. thaw days here also, about 10 out right now and heading to the deep freeze for the next few days, Single digit daytime, negative numbers at night for the next few days so not too bad. Real problem is windchill factor which puts everything down in the double negative digits. But we are just softies around here compared to some.

Nice title of thread. Let me know how things are temp wise tomorrow.

I'm close to fireview2788 here in Northern Kentucky and we saw about 54 yesterday. Just happened to be the first day with our new Buck 80 insert. Single digits overnight for the next two and then mid teens the rest of the week. It's going to be a cold run tomorrow but the cold should help the end of duck season. I'm sneaking over to my buddy's place and splitting some firewood for him while he's in Florida (he has no clue) and then I'll start cutting the following weekend.

Friends like you are hard to come by. You are a good man :)

50's is too hot for splitting wood (by hand at least)! I haven't yet found weather that's too cold, not around here. 20's and 30's with gloves, t-shirt and wooly hat is just about ideal, you can work hard, but no sweating.

50's is time for other hobbies, shame we won't see those temps again for a few more months.

I am a January 2nd until mud season cutter myself. Most of the wood I am after is in some low swampy areas that become to messy to deal with when the ground is not frozen and I hate working in the woods when it is hot. I plan to have at least 10 cord up before spring and some more bucked and on deck. I can tolerate splitting and stacking in the sun on decent days but try to stay out of the swamp as much as possible and almost never run the saw above 50 degrees.

My theory is: you can always put more clothes on to combat the cold but cannot take enough off to beat the heat. Especially when working in it! I use J/2 because it is the day after deer season ends in Michigan and I want to respect those that are still out after their venison.

Personally, I'd really appreciate it if you'd take it back to MN.

Haha, it's only -15F right now. Not nearly as bad as the -31F I woke up to this morning.
