I guess I am unclear what the firing rate is. The only information I can readily see on my boiler, is the max btu output.
Google your burner name and model number to find out your nozzle size or if you know how pull the nozzle
When I serviced mine in the spring I was surprised it was only a .75 with all of the oil I used and is why we now burn pellets I loos allot of heat in my house and am working on that

Harman owners, correct me if I am wrong, but the 43 and 61a will heat almost exactly the same (ESP and room probe) if in the same house and the same temps. The difference will come when the 43 is at its limits and the 61a can stretch its legs a little more. If the heat load doesn't need the heat, they will burn about the same. (Well, up to 43,000 BTU :). After that,.if you need more heat, the 61 will give it)

Otherwise the maintenance burn would be the same and fuel usage will match one another (unless its COLD and the 61a needs to burn more pellets). The stove will slowly ramp up and get room to temp.

All that said, I am considering replacing my Quad with a P-43 :) I am heating 2,180 sq (Ranch). Love my Quad, but want more options from the stove. Quad has Zero options. It heats like the Sun.... But lacks the bells and whistles :(
Yes this is true The cold snap was a test and This stove is what I need It burned allot of pellets but I didnt change a thing except put the blower to med high The p61 has more force I hear allot more but as far as cleaning and controls they are the same

Thanks Smokey, and everyone for the help. I have on several occasions, been ignored by the dealer. I have been told I would receive a call back several times, and they seem to have forgotten about me. It looks like I will be calling another dealer to get a price, and maybe a home evaluation.
If they can't call me back, to take my money, how will they be when I need something from them?
Thanks again.

DexterDay you could get by with half a 43 considering those other units you have running. The back forty acres just wouldn't get past 70 on real cold day.

Bear, I just checked the Ohio temp maps on Intellicast. Think I know right were dex lives now? :p

Not all dealers are unworthy. We have a few that hang here and have their chit together. One is named lousyweather and I wouldn't mind hearing what he has to say. Yep, I'm dragin him into this muck with us! :p

Ldoubleu wha ya say? How high(sqft) with a P43 or how low(sqft) with a P61a would ya go?

hm.....this is a great thread actually! Sorry I couldnt open my yap earlier, but we are busy at this time of year, hard to read 'em all in my spare time.

Lets not forget the stove is a point-source location for your heat whereas the furnace is not....the furnace will heat zones whereas the stove is gonna heat air which will hopefully eventually make it to the nether regions of your home.....you can bug around with efficiencies all you want, but its really an apples vs oranges comparison, due to the differing methods of heat deployment of the two systems.

As for the spaghetti western viewpoints of dealers, I feel thats pretty apt. Most of us will have our detractors, as well as folks who (amazingly so), actually like us! Its been said many times here, and not by stove dealers (all the time >>), but your choice of dealer is likely as important as your choice in stoves. This is the outfit that might be doing any warrantee work you may have, and no, they arent all the same. Frankly, some folks just shouldnt have a stove.....if they arent willing to do the required work to maintain the unit, heck, tell 'em that. I'd rather be up-front BEFORE the sale rather than have someone upset AFTER the sale because they werent willing to do the work. There's bad dealers, yeo, but also, bad owners.

ok......back to the question at hand....the P43 or the P61A? My money is on the P61A due to the fact of your cooler climate, less efficient method of heat delivery of the system, and the size of your place. Usually better to oversize a unit rather than undersize one. I think the past week is a good example (cold). I know I wont sell you the stove, so, I have no pennies in this pot, but if you were one of my customers, I'd do my best to talk you into the P61A rather than the P43. Higher output, IDENTICAL servicing works for me. Heck, if the stove warms the place and is "too big" for your use, it will shut itself down.....Yea, other than the initial price, cant see any downside to going to the P61-a.

a dealer here....here's my suggestion......ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS get more than one price, even if your current dealer seems the next best thing to Jesus, or Buddha, or Allah, your wife, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your husband, or whomsoever you worship, if anyone. ALWAYS.
The box stores get a mulligan here though, because everyone EXPECTS them to suck. ::P

woke up my rosy red a$$....Im at work, trying to get an older gal on the phone to clean out her p43's fines container......not pretty. Stove wont run, and since she's on a fixed income, she doesnt want to pay to have someone come out and fix it......oh, and this is day 2 of the phone call....

Figured you'd be balls out with all this money making weather we had! You still doing free calls? Maybe get 1 of them 900 numbers? Charge em by the minute like the love lines do! :p

well, I do like the cold....good to sell pellets! The problem is we spend ALOT of time on the phone troubleshooting stuff for free......even folks who havent bought from us.......gotta be a way to somehow get paid......the 900 number is a good idea, but I got tired of being asked what I was wearing all the time......

Hey Guys:
The only correct way to do sizing of a heat or a/c appliance is by the heat loss method. This is a tideous
way of doing it. I have a software program, put the sq ft & zip code & it comes up with the heat & cooling required.
95% of the furances I replaced were oversized. The sq ft method does not take into account, glass, doors, insulation.
I agree with Jay & Dex that the P-61 will do the job. One question you need to ask yourself, Is this pellet stove going to take the place of my primary heat or is just going add heat to reduce my primary useage. Hope this helps

my only concern with the p61, is that based on the temps you described that you want to reach - 68 when you're in your great room, and less than 60 upstairs - that the p61 will be in a low burn all the time.

I would bet it'd be about "mid burn" most of the time. I don't think having the stove working at 30 -50% of its heat output for any length of time is bad for the stove anyway. And having that extra heat output at the ready for extremely cold days is a nice thing too.

I bet he does what the rest of us do, Jack it up and love being toasy at half the cost of sm-oil!

We already know he's cold, Said so himself!

I am pretty sure, over time, I will increase the temps I prefer in the house. Right now, we keep the house at 65 when we are home. If we go to anyone's house and it is in the mid 70's, I am sweltering. But I am sure I can get used to it over time. So realistically, 73 would probably be more accurate.
Now I just have to convince my fiance. She is a tough one to crack. She is a pharmacist, and drives a $10K car. I am sure I will be thankful when we own our house by age 35, but looking to the future? Who does that?

When I used just the Quad for 3 seasons, Low was used until it got below 10° outside. Its only a 47,500 BTU unit. So the 43,000 of the P-43 will be plenty :)

On the map, thats EXACTLY where I live. The corners of Ashland/Medina/Lorain counties. I can throw a rock to each county from my porch. ;)

My wife's the same way - convincing her to spend money is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone

Still my vote too - my Accentra has been great 99% of the time (the other 1% was when it was 20 below, and i needed to have the oil running for assistance) and based on our conversation, your house is sealed up more than mine. And if you're hesitant, go for the Advanced at 50k btu.

I thought we told you to shield that unit.

Thanks movemaine. I appreciate the input. I spoke to several other people as well. There seems to be a 50/50 split on the 43 vs 61.
What if money is no object? XXV? Even though the brochure I have says it is 45k BTU, I am pretty sure it is 50K.

You really do warm the whole town/county don't ya! :p

I got lucky then when I placed the dot. I read you worked in Cleveland near erie. I moved the colored dot down a bit and clicked. Photoshop can almost make it look real. I couldn't quite get the right font for the numbers. ;em All in fun bro-All in fun! ==c
