Having had several cold weeks of cold did not use the Harman in the garage but shut down with the dial switch. We got a resput and got above freezing and went into the garage at noon to grab sledge hammer and the stove had fired up and was a balmy 55. The stove was still as it had been when I switched it off some two weeks ago but the hopper was almost empty of course and the switch in the same off position. I flipped the switch on the surge strip to kill the stove as I should have in the first place. Anybody else have this happen? Or do I have a appliance gremlin here at the bottom of the valley? I had a newer maytag washer that came on all by itself a couple years ago too. Company thought I was maybe well a bit off by the way the tech was laughing. Its no joke at 2 am when something like this happens with what I do as it could have been severly leaded with something on Obamas list. The tech that was sent out was listening to my story while leaning on the machine when it started going into startup and the the guy almost had a heart attack. His comment was "this is not good". Replaced almost everything but the motor and pump. Would have been cheaper for Maytag to have sent a new machine. Liability problem to the max. Any other ideas other than get a new pot sap?

I saw "Bad Pot" and it broght me right back to my high school daze...

Just love how fast things can go down hill on Hearth.com. When it becomes legal, I wonder how well hemp could burn as "medical" biofuel.... if pelletized and you crack the stove door....you'll get blasted and fried at the same time... whhhheeeeeeeee!!!

Which the insurance company and state fire marshal will look at if your toaster catches fire in the kitchen. The insurance company can go back and say that the policy had violations for a back date which makes it void on a claim.

NFPA, guideline. Fire Dept. has notice to not come to site without my instruction. As per HS etc. I was on a well trained dept for 15 years. My local is not OSHA or anything else compliant. First hand witness to this fact. I know what the Chief has in his basement.:)

Actually it is NFPA211 12.2.3 and 12.2.4

basement is ok.......its garage and sleeping rooms I am referring to......ole Eric gave you thre chapter and section......I think what he is saying is something alluding to the insurance company not paying you if something untoward should occur......I also wonder if the insurance company pays if you denied the fire dept the opportunity to put out the fire.....curious indeed......

you see, the thing is, as licensed installers and dealers, we have to install according to local, state, and federal codes....if not, we are liable....so, we tend to be a little sensitive to situations which might not be "legal"......if you call us to work on the unit, warranty work or whatever, and we find its not according to code and fix the thing without rectifying the install, then we are liable as well.....we walk away from those, and generally its just not a happy situation. Noone like to be told what to do, or what they did wrong......its just that when those actions can affect us personally, well, thats not good for us.

Garage is seperate and uninsured. Autos and cycles have to have insurance because home owners insurance would not cover them here. Now would I be liable for allowing a fire dept that I know is not in compliance with NFPA,and OSHit to enter my home if they are operating unsafely?

There are jurisdictions that require certified repair people to "redtag" unsafe and bad installs. This can also leave the repair person liable if he looks the other way.

Except hemp is not marijuana but a close relative which does not contain the same psychoactive chemicals, most notably THC, as marijuana. Which is why hemp should not even fall under the law that classifies it as a schedule I narcotic. Nor should marijuana fall under schedule I, but that is another discussion. Truth is hemp could and should be completely legal to grow, harvest, and sell as a commercial crop. As should marijuana, but that is another discussion.....Sorry for the rant but it's a subject I'm very passionate about for a number of reasons.

Makes for some very nice rope and I had a nice shirt imported from Canada. Its known around here as ditch weed. My Grandfather grew it for International Harvestor during WW2. Could easily replace trees for paper and make a cheap textile. Very renewable.

So, I read 19 posts and not one of them is helping this guy with his problem..................

Your last sentence in my opinion partially explains why certain interests want no part of it being a legal cash crop.

if you had the knod dead nuts center of "off" then you might have ice crystal or something forming on the pot contacts tricking it, thats a whacky gremlin to have if you ask me...i seen a few gremlins too. I'd get some contact cleaner for a few $$ before I went trying to switch out the pot or control board.

you may also have a squatter living in your garage...look for empty beer cans, candy wrappers...that kind of thing. ;)

I know I have Herman the ermine. Keeps the rodents to a minimum.
