Thats an oil drip bucket. After the cat gets good and hot, you set the bucket on top, the stove pre-heats the oil, which drips into the cat. It makes a hot fire!

Do I see a ring on the top center stone where the bucket sat?

Maybe that's how it heats 2000 sq ft.

Really? I guess I don't know who I am dealing with. However, I googled it and found this ehow for adding a waste oil drip to a small wood stove.
