Had tons of FSU and SC around these parts the beginning of January but that has dried up. Really loved the 15 bags of SC I bought and FSU has always been a go-to box store staple. So now, the local HDs are packed with Green Supreme... oh well..... I'll burn two bags. Very surprised at their performance in my stove, from the reviews I have read on this site. Just goes to show you have to try stuff to see what works for you...
Good for me as a shoulder pellet and better than some old GTs from last year that I am about to burn through. Will buy 12-15 bags of GS at a time and coast till Spring. Have room for two tons of shoulder pellets and will pull the trigger when I find something worth storing for next year. Still sitting on about 3 tons of mixed Sets and BFs. Anyone within 50 miles of me seeing SC or FSU? Have truck, will travel!

The HD near me usually pulls their stuff earlier than the Lowes. Lowes will keep their stuff on the racks(under cover) all season. Only problem is the jack the price way up. After easter if I need pellets I'll go to the pellet houses. They always have pellets!

Only seen Green Supreme, Maine Choice and Inferno lately at low prices. Greene Team is still high. No FSU in over a month.

Saw some Mcfeeters yesterday at Aubuchon at 250/ton.

Do the box stores throw pellets on sale towards the end of the season or raise prices?

To them they are at war with the other local boxes with the $209/ton(my area) price all winter. Once spring arrives they usually start raising prices as the supply gets low to make an actual profit on them. I usually see them start the season at a higher price too, Then back to the war games around late September/early October-ish.

Buying pellets from the boxstore is not only a crap shoot. But you need to not get nervous come fall and the price is high. Wait it out for the war prices or hit a pellet dealer that should easily meet or beat the boxes fall kick off prices of close to $300/ton. You can buy Barefoots-Turmans-Hamers-Okies for the same dime!! Just a silly game we must play to save a few nickles. Example is the Greene Teams Platinum that Lowes wants $270/ton. I can go get Greene Golds(same pellet) for the same price or less at a pellet house. I'd rather spend my dimes and nickles there anyway! I can also get Maine Choice for the same boxstore price. Much better service and he knows me by name too!

i just bought the last ton of stove chows that my local HD had . they've got @ 50 tons of FSU but every pallet of chows had someones name on it except one :)

the more i burn these chows the more i like them .

Much better service

Same as my local Mom & Pop shop , back up to the pallet and they help you load. I can get Hammer's, Turman's & GAP's at fair prices. Do I buy big box sure I do I can try different brands then get on here and discuss the pro & cons of xyz brand and have some fun doing it;)

Excellent points. I bought a ton of Greene golds for 219.00 in early December. Just have to be smart about what you're buying.

I do too. Some I like very much and some I can leave for the others. I am as cheap as they come and the price is hard to pass on while the war is going on. Just takin advantage of it, But I do with care to avoid wet/damaged goods. Most have outside storage only!

This year especially because the selection was very good in my area Set's, GT's , Timber Heat, & Cheat River. They all worked well in my stove and set up . Avoid any bags with rips or holes.
