Got about half of the wood split today. The oak definitely splits easier than the cherry!

Great looking pile Ray! ;)
Thanx Terry.. The electric splitter does great with green oak and OK with cherry but tends to be stringy.. Hatchet came in handy dealing with the stringy part! ;)

Looks good Ray, when's the last time you had snow?
Hardly any snow again this year Zap.. Maybe 6" total all winter here.. How about you?

Poor example of a winter scene :p

Climate change is good for your area :)

We received about two inches yesterday on top of some rock snow, not sure how much snow was left after the melt..maybe three inches. If we don't any measurable snow this week I'll be cutting or burning in the fireplace next week.

Bummer! Red Oak is so much easier to split and rarely gets stringy.. Still MUCH easier than elm though!

Well... I have a splitter.... and my wife and I failed to see eye to eye on somethine... so I elected to do it by hand.... and I broke my axe...

That probably didn't help with the stress relief then

Once had an elderly neighbor. He was a man of French Canadian roots who spoke broken English. He loved to cut wood when the temps were below freezing . I recall him cutting 4 ft lengths, then hitting one end with an ax and splitting the whole length of the log. He said frozen wood splits best. This guy had two heart attacks, but kept cutting wood into his 80's.

Way to stay on top of it Ray. The tarp? To keep it from freezing to the ground?

The tarp is to prevent that and also to prevent the termites from thinking it's dinner time if the ground thaws out.. Lots of subterranean termites around here..

It does! that and if you disconnect the tree from it's roots before the sap starts to run..... you literally cut years off the seasoning time... the amount of water pumped into a tree in late feb and early march is astounding...

I was thinking of how to solve a slight problem I had today. Picking up a round and swinging it to bump the others that were frozen to the ground. o_O Nothing like adding to the the physical work I already have with the splitting. ;lol

We were buried once this year but the JD walk behind snowblower opened up the trails to the stacks, 4:30 hours later.
