Now that my splitter is running nicely, I wonder if it has a return function that maybe just needs adjusting or a new spring. It has never retracted on its own since I've owned it. I bought it used in non working condidtion. Its a Brand valve. There is a allen key behind the lower part of the lever on the body of the valve. Anyone have experience with these models?

Agreed, I don't see a detent adjustment on that valve.

The detent is located inside the cap directly opposite the handle. It is factory set. Could be worn or have a broken spring.
Could also just be a return spring in there. Detent adjustment is usually a large hex that protrudes at 90deg to the spool axis.

Triptester is usually spot on. I would pop that cap off and take a look. Return springs are usually internal to the valve body. (I am not familiar with this valve).

How does the cap usually come off? Friction fit, screw?

Again, not familiar with your valve, but usually there is a screw (or two) that hold in on. Yours appears that it may screw on or is being held in place by the back part of the valve spool.

Heck - its just parts. Start unscrewing stuff.;lol

LOL :) I like Jags approach :)
Take movable parts off to see how it works, or should work, or what's broke .
Worst is you buy a new valve :)

If it moves and it shouldn't - duct tape
If it should move and it doesn't - WD40
