What a beautiful day! Sunny, no wind and temperature is 20's. Fantastic!

Pictures 1 and 2 are of an ash. The top blew out of this tree back in July when we had the big blow. Picture 3 is of a small white oak that you can see the ash broke on its way down. I doubt it will live but will wait and see before cutting. The bigger tree by that oak is another dead ash that has to come down. Not sure if I'll get to it this year or not.

fwiw, I cut all of that ash with the little saw; Stihl 180. On the stump it was about 20" but cut pretty easy. After I went back I was wishing I'd taken the bigger saw but then said to heck with it and just used the toy saw. It did fine.

This area has several ash trees that still need cutting but I can't do it this year. It also is in an area where it is best to wait until the ground is frozen. That is why I never got them cut last winter.

Hey Dennis, looks like you've got plenty of work ahead of you there. Have fun and be careful!;)

Sounds like a perfect day. Where does the "almost" part come in?

lol - I was going to say the same thing. How does it get better than that?

Well, there are a few things come to mind, but some of those are done in other places than in the woods during winter. ==c

Look real good Sav...I would have loved to be in the woods today it was perfect here today too. I got home from work last night and had 102 temp. I stayed in and kept the fire going today (first sick day in about five years). Did get cabin fever about 4 and took the truck down and filled it up. Hope to get to the woods Saturday.

Hope you are feeling better really fast Locust. Not good to run those temperatures. I've been a bit under the weather myself and had not cut wood for a couple weeks. So yesterday and today I cut some wood. Just something I had to do and although it caused a bit of pain, I am not a bit sorry. Wife also understood how I felt.

Have to go to a town hall meeting so hope to be back on the forum later.

Great pictures of a sunny day in the woods.
good work temp .

Figured you to have more snow by now. Winter better hurry with some more snow for you.

Dave, we just have not got much snow at all this year. The most we've had on the ground at any one time is 1 1/2". Yes, that is inches and not feet. Have plenty forecast for tomorrow and tomorrow night though. I still am not going to put the snow blade on because I don't believe them....yet.

I figured you would be out cutting Dennis. Beautiful day for it! :)

Dennis, is that 2nd ash close enough to the other tree to be a problem?
I finally got off my butt from sitting on it for over a week and cut down the 2nd Spruce in the drive. Only limbed and bucked the first 25' or so. All those limbs! Should have used my SIL's little Homelite. The hog (455) gets to my back after a while.
The center of the tree had been invaded by black ants, so good thing I took it down.
Oh yeah, you can have some of our snow. We only got about an inch overnight, but due for some more today. We'll see.

I have one of those "toy" saws too. It is much more capable than you'd think. Good to hear you are out and enjoying the beautiful day.

Nice work Sav. The snow has not started here yet. But I think you better put that blade on. Can you push the heavy stuff with your blade? What do you put the blade on? Four wheeler?

great day in ME also. Not much snow left but good & cold so everything is froze hard! I'm getting the tractor in areas that I'll need waders (and a looong cable) in a month or so. Got to drag out some on the stump blow overs today (rock maple & ash) before we get this expected 18"-24" snow fri night. My fingers are crossed for a nice snow!

Those ash will be no problem dropping. And for sure, limbing those spruce should be done with a small saw. Really saves the body and I actually think it goes faster with the small saw.

Our 1-2" last night never came nor has the 1-3" today. Now they've cut down to 3-7" tonight but it does not look that way to me. It will have to grow a lot to amount to anything. More predicted tomorrow. I think this is another case of crying, "Wolf!"

Use the Grizzly atv. I can push a lot and don't even have chains. The only problem is if the snow is too sticky. Then it is a lot of forward and back, forward and back. Not sure what it will do if we get a couple feet at once. Hope to not find out. As for this storm, I thought they were crazy from the start on their forecast and it is proving to be so. Funny too because if you look at the radar, we should have got quite a bit by now. Have not seen so much as a flurry yet.

Same here. That area where I'm cutting now has to be frozen to get in and out of there.

I have cut several times in an area that needs to be frozen to get close to and wouldn't mind gettting a few more loads out but we have warmer and rain coming. You never know Sav you could go to bed tonight and wake up to a foot on the ground we've all seen that. I don't think either of us will freeze to death though. You run with what the Good Lord sends.

I keep waiting as well Dennis. Nothing! That will be fine by me, no need to dig out the pine for the evaporator! :)

Well, it is easy to get to. Looks like we won't even have to plow a path to it.
