The other day I saw a commercial for a new apple flavored drink. I believe it was a hard cider, but I do not remember the name. Anyone know of a new cider that has come out. I like wood chuck but i was curious as to what others like.

There are a ton of brands available these days that's for sure!
Did you see a commercial for it on tv? If yes then I'd guess its probably one of the bigger companies.

You should try making some at home because it is super easy to do and uses minimal equipment.

I went to a local distilleries show last weekend and there was a apple cider vodka that was amazing and super easy to drink and I could see getting carried away with it! Hehe

ya i saw it on tv the other night, and I love to try new drinks out. I have been thinking about making my own, I have read alot of threads on here about folks making there own cider, and it does not seem to complicated.

The commercial you saw was prob for redd's apple ale. Been pushing it hard on tv and radio.

was it for Angry Orchard?

YOu

You nailed it, thanks man I appreciate it. I was trying to remember but for the life of me I could not!

Im a big fan of angry orchard and wood chuck which are both hard ciders. I saw the commercial for Redd's Apple Ale looking at superbowl commercials on line (didnt watch the game)

Has anyone had it? I've never heard of it or seen it around here.

Angry orchard is another one that i have not heard of, making a list of new ones to try!

I LOVE hard cider. Wish I could have it all year long. Not the kind brewed in breweries, but the homemade stuff.

Nothing like it!

scotty I am looking into making my own this fall. Any ideas on making syrup this year. I follow alot of your threads, and was curious if this winter is going to ruin production again this year. By the way I love the fireplace construction!

Thanks for the compliments, BW! As far as syrup goes, not sure I will be doing it this year. Another terrible winter has me disgusted and I'm just not psyched up about it. Its a real PITA to get all that equipment out for only three or four weeks of production, and I still have around 20 gallons of syrup from last year and the year before in the basement, so I will probaly forego making it this year. And with the lame winter we had, I didn't get much wood for the evaporator off of the farm (i use the snowmobile to get my firewood off of the farm, we haven't had much in the way of snow this year again). Not to mention that living room is not done yet, and I have lots of tree work slated to start later this month. I just don't think I'll be doing the syrup this year, and I'm bummed about it but that's how it goes sometimes..

You are now obligated to buy some and report back.

I'll be drinking some home brew cider from the last batch. It turned out awesome and is soooo easy to make. Used apples from our trees and an antique press.

I am with you, but there is always next year lord willing. Do you make your own cider. I have been doing alot of research and checking out threads here, and it does not seem real complicated, I think I may have to learn a new hobby.

I will see if my local store carries it and I will report back.

Actually I think Redds isn't really cider...but is brewed like a beer...but I may be wrong.

Homemade cider is super easy.

Step 1 go buy a gallon jug of el cheapo wine...drink it or dump it out...you just want the bottle.

Step 2 get a gallon of fresh pressed cider or something with NO PRESERVATIVES. If fresh it works best if you freeze it to kill off any natural yeast.

Step 3 put cider in bottle and add 2-3 cups white sugar...more if you like it sweeter and less if you like it dry.

Step 4 add yeast. I use champagne yeast but really any will do. Got mine on amazon.

Step 5 give it a good shake and plug it and insert airlock.

Step 6 wait for the bubbling to stop...a couple weeks depending on the yeast.

Step 7 transfer to another container to get it off the sediment that accumulates in the bottom.

Step 8 wait some more...let it age and mellow out for a couple weeks to improve flavor.

Step 9 enjoy.

I broke out a bottle of our 1st batch of homemade cider from last fall's apples. Wowser, it came out great. I did it with champagne yeast and bottle half still and half back carbonated. My wife likes the fizzy stuff best. It's like a good apple champagne. I'm totally sold on homemade.

Sorry for the blurry pics, old cellphone. I found it. Beer taste with a slight hint of apple. Not to bad.

We like woodchuck, harpoon and angry orchard in that order. Homemade sounds good - any chance of killing ourselves as with poorly put by vegetables in jars? ;)

I found Redd's in a local package store and bought a six... quite good, it really tastes more like a cider than an ale (I tried "Applehead recently and wasn't that impresed). "Crispin" is my favorite of the commercial hard ciders but I think Redd's is just as good. FWIW, Angry orchard is a Sam Adams product, available in bottles and on draft... and the draft product is much better than bottled.

I can take some of that syrup off your hands if you want ;). We make a good breakfast almost every day and consume lots of real syrup. I wish I had sugar maples here.
