460 Stihl

Well today was the day, scored a partial downed oak enough to fill the dually and broke out the new saw. Second pull and she fired. I didn't know what to think as it sounded like a kitten compared to my defunct 041 super. Yes it a great saw going thru the 20" plus oak but really miss that roar of the 041. So should I go for the dual port muffler or leave it stock? As a side note used my 280 for some of the smaller branchs and not to much difference noise wise.

Dual-port is a great upgrade for that saw.

I run a 3/4 inch s/s. I do change from my proted and stock cover just depending on what I am doing.

No and hearing protection is recommended! Its a great way to clear the area.

I love my 041 Supers.....both of them! And I fabbed dual-ported the mufflers on them too. As MM said, the dual port would be an awesome sound and performance upgrade on that 460.......
I also forged those bucking spikes on that saw, out of a Jeep leaf spring! Those puppies are MEGA strong!

So as you can see, there are a ton of ways to open up the exhaust on that MS460 and assert your dominance on some trees.

If I were to put a dual port muffler on my 460 would my local Stihl dealer still tune it due to not being stock anymore? I have heard that they will not work on modded saws due to liability issues.

I'd tune it myself, or take it to another shop. Its easy to tune a saw.......the performance gain is worth the work!

Thanks Boog! I'm gonna make more of them when I get my forge up and running. I made these ones on my buddy's forge. Wasn't too hard to make them, but I had to get them hot to drill the mounting holes and temper them after the holes were in. They give the saw a mean look and are also really nice in thick bark trees. Nothing like a good west coast-style spike!

Is the saw modded if it's all done with Stihl OEM parts? (So what if they're from Austrailia? .... )

+1 on take it to another shop for the re-tune or learn to DIY.
