Hi all,

I have a chance to pick up a Dolmar 7900 - about 3-4 years old, told the compression was recently checked at local shop and is at factory specs. Home owner saw. What do you think might be a good price to pay for a used 7900 (I couldn't find any comps on eBay, etc.). Thanks!

Cheers!

I know where you can buy a 'like new' 7900 for 450. Maybe less as the guy sounded a little short on cash. I was going to buy a parts saw off him but it was too far. Was tempted to drive down and offer him 300 for both but didn't have the time.

Pm sent.

Oh and stay out of my territory. South berwick is on my side of the border ;)

Ha! Don't I have state rights? Cheers!

There were a couple on eBay that sold for between 500-550. Search for dolmar 7900 then click on completed listings near the top of the results.

Fwiw Ive been selling (on cl) cheap $50 pos poulan, homelite and craftsman saws as fast as I can get them running. But havent had much response on the nicer husky and stihls. Wrong time of year I guess.

Hmmm.....tried that on ebay but came up with no listings - glitch I guess. Interesting on the pos saws - I've been staying away from them, since they seem to want about as much for the saw as I could sell for once cleaned up, fixed, etc. Cheers!

Thoughts on Dolmar 7900...?

They are badass;)

Can't imagine why. No more power/displacement and same weight as the MS460. Prolly easier on fuel tho!
Initial reports over on AS seem to indicate that the 461 is a fair bit stronger out of the box than the 460, especially when it comes to torque. Same seems true for the 372xt compared to the 372xp. The strato's just seem to bring more torque to the table in stock form. Fuel savings are another bonus.

Yeah I heard that too. Have you seen the muffler on a stock 460? Not hard to figure out where all the power is......

Yeah, but all modern saws are choked up. These new strato saws are just as restricted at the muffler as the non-strats. I'll bet an opened up 461 would still run neck and neck with a 460 and probably beat it. As much as some people(mostly modders) don't care for this new technology, strato(with mtronic/autotune/or FI) is the way of the future. All of the modern 70cc class saws are first class. This is just splitting hairs, but it's fun to talk about;)

Why is my MS460 hiding in the truck? Did somebody bring a damned 7900 again?
Ha! I'm seriously thinking about going for a look - I've wanted a big saw for a long time and I love my PS-510 - we'll see! Cheers!

If your buying for your personal collection 400 sounds like a good price. Not much room for profit if you want to flip it.

Last I knew you couldn't get a new 79 cc Dolmar, thanks to the EPA. That was last year when I heard that, though.

My 7900 rips. It is a really fun saw to run. I keep a 28" bar on it. It would handle a longer one, and would be pure grins with a 20" and an 8 pin.

Yes, was thinking about keeping this one - definitely too tight to make any money. If found an older post for what seems to be the same saw on CL - had to replace motor mounts and cylinder/crankcase gasket - wondering why if he says the saw is only about 4 years old and homeowner use. Cheers!

I saw that too. But it has a different phone number. Not sure it's the same saw.

And the 372 part saw Travis had looked pretty beat. Definately more than average use...

Yes - hard to say, but same price, a town or two apart - seemed possible. Trying to decide if it's worth the ~ 2 h drive - we have a dolmar dealer the next town over from me - hoping one will pop up locally! Cheers!

Yeah and the writing style is similar. -- The saw will gut anything in one ad vs its a monster in the other.

In the end I didn't want to make the 1.5 hour drive either.

My 10+ year old 7900 blew the cylinder base gasket, that was a head scratcher for a while. What made it worse was the kill switch went intermitant at the same time. Let go of throttle and it would head for the sun rpm wise with kill switch having no effect. That was fun.

Yowza! Fun indeed!!! Cheers!

Nothing wrong with a 7900 but everone trys to measure the 460.
