Split and Stacked a little today.

A lot of Ash, Red Oak, some Walnut, Hickory, Hedge, and Locust. About 3 or four years, I will burn this stuff.

I know the splitter is not in the correct position, but unlike Dennis who can't stand very
long without hurting, I can't sit for very long without hurting.

Looks good Chief I recognize those big pieces of ash from your last weekend work. I had good wood hauling weekend. Big load y-day and usually don't do much on Sunday but just couldn't resist hauled about 3/4 of another load late this afternoon of mostly sugar maple.

That's amazing the diameter of some of those logs! That must be challenging to split I would think. Is there a particular pattern to follow when splitting larger pieces like that?

I assume the yellow is the hedge? never seen wood that color around here, locust can be almost orange but thats really yellow.

Thanks Zap. Despite the fact that I have burned wood for 40 years, I have learned a lot on this forum, and changed because of it. But I have always stacked that way............I think that is the only reason Dennis likes me

Thanks. Actually, I cut by eyeball and my splits vary a lot. But when I stack, I stack with all the outer edges of the splits even......gives the illusion of perfectly cut to length splits.

HDR, I found it was a little flimsy when I got it, so I lined the bottom and sides with old AL signs cut to fit and pop riveted in. Made her hell for stout.

Yes, the yellow is the hedge. BL is a much paler yellow. It turns a beautiful rusty brown when exposed to the sun.

Split them in half first, then again if they are to big, and then start making splits. I like square splits rather than triangles, so that's how I go at it.

Great job, Chief. Good to see you at it like that, after all you've been through. I am chompin at the bit to get back out. Took a drive around town as the tree crews have been clearing the powerlines in the area, found quite a few logs just laying on the side of the road. Gonna stop and ask a couple of property owners if they want them gone (even though the wood is on the right-of-way).

Dennis, I don't think I could teach you much. But the big stuff does let you split some nice square stuff for ends. Seems like big stuff is all I ever get. Sometimes I wish I could get some nice straight 8 -12 in. stuff like so many on here have tons of. It sure would be a lot easier to handle.

And I was hoping we could stay friends I have tried the vertical and still do it sometimes. But standing is a lot easier for me. I can't even sit at work at my desk for long. We are just a couple of old codgers who have figured out a way to keep doing this.

Steve, I think together we might learn a thing or two yet. And you are right, sometimes those 8-12 logs are really nice. For sure they won't break your back while handling it.

As for the standing vs sitting, my wife is like you. She'd rather stand and does most of the day. It would just about kill me to have to do that any more. No doubt the polio thing has a lot to do with it and yes, I have some scoliosis, so that complicates it a bit. So I'll sit, you stand.

I'll finish stacking for the Winter on March 20; Then I start on the Spring stacking...of wood for next Fall.

Looks like you still have a good bit of snow on over that way Chief. Glad your done for the winter. I have yet to get the splitter out and likely won't for at least a month. No firewood for me this weekend big mens event at church yesterday 100 guys not a bad turnout for a church of about 300 members. Well today I did stack a little that fell on the backside of my pile and I did take a walk with a friend to scope out a plan for an area that was logged. So going to hit it hard for the next couple months "Lord willing and the creek don't rise"
