Massachusetts stove upgrade program.

I saw a flyer for this at my local wood stove place a few days ago. What the article doesn't say:

The dealer you buy from must install the new stove, and verify that they are removing a non-EPA approved device. No self policing or installations here.
 
Did it say the stoves have to be purchased in MA? I would think they want to keep the money taxes local.
 
My brother in law purchased his new stove under a similar programming Keene, NH. I have to imagine that there is some type of paperwork associated with the program, so MA is going to be aware that the purchases are occurring. Patrick will get his pound of flesh.
 
Surprised that the offer is only for qualified low income families. Seems like most of the State incentives have been focused on reducing costs for anyone looking to increase efficiency. A bit disappointed in this since I have some HydroHeat wood boiler in my basement from the previous owner that I'd like to replace with a modern wood stove. Guess I'll try and grab a few bucks for it on Craigslist or something.

Further down the article it does say there is $1,000 rebate for other residents. I imagine they will require the older stove be turned into the scrap heap.
 
So, I just learned that I've been approved for this change-out program! I plan on replacing an old VC Intrepid. This stove is pre-EPA right? photo.JPG
 
Did anyone else notice how small the program is? It's $100,000 to start and they're giving out rebates of $1,000-$2,000. My crappy math skills tells me that means 50-100 people will be able to take advantage of it. There's about 6 million people in the state, so it should be pretty competitive.

This being Taxachusetts, I'm sure they'll expand it, but you'd think they'd make it a bit bigger to start.

It's a pilot program.

Apparently the stoves don't need to be purchased in Ma... (although maybe you do need to pay Ma sales tax on it or something) because Woodstock got into the program and they sell from NH.

You will have to pay the MA sales tax, especially if you are filing paperwork with the state.

Yup, I could drive there and avoid the Sales tax, but if they shipped it to me they'ld be charging me for the sales tax. Still might be worth it if there's a way to save $1K.
 
Is this program still running? I heard that it ran out of funds.

I don't think driving to NH will get you around the taxes with this one.
