I picked up a great condition 025 last summer while working in Ohio. Replaced all the basic stuff - filters, plug, etc. and put on a new chain. Liked the saw a lot - nice light saw for smaller work.

Well, my college mentor, who is essentially responsible for getting me to where I am today (and I'm quite blessed and happy!) is retiring this year. I met him for dinner the other night and we got to talking about wood and saws. His old Stihl died last year, and he asked me to keep an eye out for a decent saw - something light and in good condition.......

Well, he stopped by my house today to say hi and left with a retirement gift - my 025 - never felt better about seeing one of my saws leave the house - and he sure had a big smile when I handed over the saw. Good luck to my old friend - may he cut many a cord in retirement!

Cheers!

Great story.

Very generous & thoughtful gift!

Nice move there NH_Wood, I like your style. I know how hard it was to part with your 025 trust me. I just tore down this one of mine yesterday to overhaul it.

Your thoughtful gesture now begs the question..................... what are you going to replace it with?

Thanks guys - he definitely deserved it! Boog - that's a tear down all right - what needs done?
I have a line on a pretty nice MS260 - looks like I might be able to snag it for $220 - waiting to hear back - if he'll take that much, I'll likely pick it up to replace the 025. Cheers!

That sounds like a great deal, a 260 will make more than an adequate replacement for the 025. My 025 was starting to smoke heavy after prolonged use. The seals turned out to be worn and hard as rocks. The piston/rings/cylinder are well worn but not scored, piston shows signs of blow-by. I'm still evaluating all my options there.

Nice story and nice price on the 260. What goes around, comes around!

Thanks - still hoping to hear back on the 260 - no work yet - not sure if he's going to go for the price.......Cheers!
