Was driving through a satellite shop at work today (I inspect, calibrate, and repair all of the welder machines at our facility, there are approx. 370 welder machines here), and stopped to make quick chat with a buddy of mine in the shop. We were talking about cooking on the firepit, cutting trees, heating with wood, etc. (yeah, go figure), when a nearby co-worker of his overheard us talking.

So my buddy goes back to work and the guy comes up to me and says "so you burn wood for heat and cut trees on the side, eh?" I said "yes, I do!" I he then says he has a wood row that separates his son-in-laws field from the neighbor's field that has a HUGE locust tree (around 24" to "30 at the base), and two 24" cherry trees he wants out of there. All three, straight drops.........

I told him if they take care of the mess, I'll get them down and take the wood!! He said its a deal!! The way he was talking, there's close to 3 cord of wood there.......

I'll be going out Saturday morning to have me a look!!

You know the drill Scotty, pics or...;) Nice (to be confirmed) score! ==c

I don't have anywhere to put that much wood, and I'm still jealous. If you were next door I'd ask if could hand-split a bunch of it for you, just for fun.

Unless those things are built like Danny Devito, I'd guess there's more than a cord each. Cherry and locust are a great combo- just don't mix them up if you use the wood for smokin BBQ :)

Don't worry guys......I will take pics. Being one of the preachers in the "pics or it didn't happen" congregation, I will most certainly do so. I'm just hoping this one follows through......

This will replace half of what I used this year, all in one score! Its more locust than I used all year, and I haven't cut much cherry in the past two years....I'm really hoping this pans out!!

See some of that Good Karma has came back around. It just took a bit longer...

Sometimes is seems we fall into it. Other times we can't find it. Sounds like you fell into a good one here Scott. If you run out of room to store it, Just bring it here. We have lots of room and the rental charges are very low.

Dennis, I'll hook the trailer up to the minivan when we come out your way this summer......It'll be rough going but I'll do my best to bring you some locust!!

NY State has a fire wood qurantine, DEC.loves to pick off
unsuspecting tourists, with campfire wood 50 mi limit . 300 dollar fine.
Unless certified kiln dried. But loggers can haul any distance.
They set up on roads into campgrounds and state forests.
Or if they suspect firewood loads going down the hwy.

So does PA.....but it's all for the spread of EAB and it doesn't really help a dang bit. The bugs get brought in via all kinds of other ways......it's inevitable...

We're loggers.

if he!! freezes over and Dennis runs out of storage space I am right down the road from him. At least from the - I just drove from central PA perspective. Maybe 40 minutes or so :)

We're loggers.
I agree...justs a slightly smaller scale.
OOOoo...I just had a million dollar idea! How about a firewood scrounging reality show?!?!? Work with me here. I can see kinda a cross between AxMen, Moonshiners and SwampPeople. Guys smuggling locust to Michigan, others jumping fencing to get scrounges during the night, always great drama felling trees, running splitters...I'm teeling ya boys we could have something here.

Save the trunks for the mill (If they're nice enough obviously) Plenty of branches/tops from the Cherry for the smoker ::-)
