Feeling the Heat
Howdy all,

My St. Croix York is up and running and it's doing all it can do to keep the house heated but it's a little shy on BTU output. I'm trying to heat and open floor plan contemp with about 2200 SF, tall ceilings with ceiling fans running and I'm running the stove pretty much flat out and it keeps the house around 70 when it's not too cold outside. The room temp drops down to mid to low 60's when it's below 20 deg or so. I am looking for a bigger insert. I have been looking for the installation dimensions required for a Harman Invincible insert but I can't find any detailed info on the net. Operator manuals are out there but nothing on required clearances inside the firebox or hopper height. Anybody have those dimensions? I searched and found some of the stove dimensions but not all of them needed to find out if it will fit. Thanks!

The invincible has not been made in a long time has it? Why go with something so old.

53,000 BTU, built like a tank. I could do an Accentra but it's only 40,000 BTU, same as the St. Croix. Other options are a big Quad or Regency insert, maybe a Mt. Vernon. Nothing wrong with an older stove as long as it's in good shape and the price is right.

You know that the invincible has 50k buts and won't hold a full bag of pellets. And whatever you do, don't by the one on cl advertised for $2200....and if you do get one, make sure it's got the newer control board with the feed rate, not the old school hand crank....I would strongly suggest an Accentra or m55 unless you are a Harman fanatic.

There's a invincible on CL New Hamphire or $1500. There's a St Croix also, both inserts. The guy couldn't give me a year on the Harman. Hopefully I can take a look at it this weekend if I'm not working.

Which is the better deal of the two. Both the same price. Don't have year on either stove.

What wrong with the old school hand crank Invincible T? Mine works great. Just takes a little tweaking (like my wife).

Don't by a used st. croix anything unless it is very cheap.
If you are on a limited budget wait 3 months for the used market to open up.

Thanks.

opening needs to be 16" deep, 24" high (minimum)

Thanks LW! I had the depth but didn't know the height. Not sure I have enough room for 24". I think I'm a little shy.

Scott, my York barely holds a bag of pellets. Same hopper weight capacity as the Harman.

Hoot, that's the Harman insert I was considering. I may wait 'til spring or summer unless some rippin' deal comes along.

I'm looking for my father-in-law. He needs something easy to work with so I'm trying to find a used Harman insert for him. He's 71 and still messing with wood and coal. His wife is always complaining about being cold and the have fireplace that they don't use. An Accentra wit auto light might be better.
