has a bunch of Englanders (Summers Heat) stoves for cheap that look like they were customer returns...they are burned out. The hang tag says "Factory Refurbished and Tested"

I have a hard time believing that a stove was returned to them, shipped to Englander, tested and returned to the store...especially since there is stil ash all caked in and around the fire box.

Don't fall for it unless they extend the warranty as new AND double check that the stove warranty wasn't already registered with Englander.

Mike...are you seeing this?

Ive seen factory refurbs from Englander, and they are in fact usually sent back to the factory and tested......any of the ones Ive seen were obviously not new, but werent full of caked ash either.......sounds fishy

Sounds like BS to me...

there was a Lowes in CT last year that i saw the same thing

I was looking at a refurbished pellet stove a few years back at the Lowes in Dartmouth Ma. I didn`t end up buying it because I just didn`t want to spend the money at that time, but the person I spoke with said something along the lines of "Lowes would honor the warrenty just like it was a new stove since they can`t sell used items." With it being refurbished they can sell it. I can`t remember my conversation exectly since it was a couple years ago but you get the idea. I would just double check with the store on warrenty and ask any other important questions before a purchase.

Love the word games. News Bulletin: REFURBISHED = USED. We refurbish copiers and resell them, it pisses me off when one of our salesmen markets them as "metered" whatever the heck that is. They are used.
RV dealer near me sells "Previously Enjoyed" RV's. ;lol

Yeah I get it but the warranty for the stove is through Englander not Lowe's...so it is kinda a misrepresentation. My thought is that you buy one, go to register the warranty with Englander and cannot cause it has already been registered by someone else.

Don`t take my words as carved in stone I was trying to remember a conversation from a couple years ago. The floor person wasn`t trying to B.S me obviously they are used but Lowes will guarentee it as if it were a new stove was the point I was trying to make.

You got me on that one, how that would work I couldn`t say.

Understood...I am getting at the marketing word games that has taken over this country.

I'm gonna let Mike Holton settle this but I'd be willing to bet those stoves were returns that went to him at the factory, were repaired and test burned and are now being offered as refurbished/new with a full warranty at a steep discount. Just the same as the ones at Mardens that fly off the shelves.

I kinda doubt it, but possible. The refurbs that he test burns and sells through AMFM don't have obvious signs of ash in the burn pot. All I saw in mine was a couple stray corn kernels. The rest of the burn pot, firebox, and the stove as a whole looked like brand new.

you would be wrong. they would never let a stove be shipped with the insides looking like this. these were returns from folks that most likely just returned them for whatever reason....since no one at Lowes is "factory" that was the point i was alluding to

I hear ya Scott and you may well be correct. All I said was that Mike could settle this...he's probably flat out at work these days though....

Lowe's is gonna guarantee it? how, without stocking parts OR a service department? Is Spiffy the after-school-10th-grader gonna come to your house and troubleshoot it?

Actually, he said in another thread that he was not busy at all. Call Englander Tech and ask for him.

They had one at my home depot that had a sign that just said "customer return" and was marked down I think $200.

Hey i`m just relaying what was said to me. If someone wants one they can go ask questions themselves! I got no dog in this fight!

It doesn't mean that much to me....I have two Harmans....

I used to go to the Blue store and the Orange Store and clean up and test englanders that were customer returns. When I was done they were then marked 50% off and sold in the clearance area. Many of them were purchased in December and returned at the end of the heating season. Many times there was nothing at all wrong with the stoves they were just dirty. One time I did find a huge issue and that stove was sent back to the manufacturer.
