Every time I am unloading and processing wood, I think , man !! I wish I had a hookaroon, I looked at buying one but, I saw some ideas in a thread on here a while back about making your own and figured I just may have everything I need out in the shop, and sure enough I did.

Some 1" OD aluminum tubing from another project where trying to bend that tubing didn't work out so great ,so that's why you will see a slight band in the and of the handle, which I think is a good thing to have, and it turned out to be 30 inches.

Then I got a piece of half-inch water pipe that just happen to slide right inside the aluminum , I made that peace 17 inches long.
I just happen to have some 1/2" , 8 inch long carriage bolts , so I drilled a 1/2" hole through both pipes at the same time , cut the head off the carriage bolt, ground it to shape , and put a lock nut on one side.

Tried it out real quick, works great :) picked up some splits , stuck it in a 15" by 3 foot log and dragged it .

To put something on the end of the handle better than the tape, I'm thinking about using foam pipe insulation or bicycle handlebar wrap, or maybe both, any ideas on that ?

Given this is a firewood site that would likely be a firewood manipulator.
If this were a pig slaughter site that would be an oink persuader.

Looks like it should do the job and best of all it's custom model. Love mine for pulling rounds out of the truck and onto the splitter.

Tape up the handle with some tennis racquet or baseball bat grip.

Good idea, got me lookin and found, Red Tool Tape soft grip handle wrap, at Menerds, $4.99

I used pieces of washing machine drain hose for the grip on the ones I made out of 3/4" pipe and ice tongs.

Great job man, so, that drain hose is 3/4" ID ? I have some 3/4" conduit in the shop , I going to use to make another one 6 or 7'

Finished product, they had no red wrap.
I had to much weight with the 17" water pipe inside , cut it down to 8", now just enough weight to help it penetrate.
