Installing a P68 in a remodeled kitchen,I was wondering if anyone has experiance with a optional heat shield.
I talked to the dealer and he said there is no loss of heat output with these.
By having one it reduces the clearance from combustables from 18" to 12",which would be a big help with my remodel job....but i dont want to reduce my heat output by alot either.
While i have you all here,i have another question,
what is a compfortable distance from the outside wall...to the back of the stove...so as to be able to get back there and do maintainence?
I currently have a Accentra insert that just pulls out.
I know what the minimum clearance is....just wondering whats a good distance...3-4"?
Thanks

Hi fellow Maine-ah!
We have a P61 with shields. Did it to save space as our living room is about 12x12.
But, if the room was larger, I would go with no shields to give more room.
It is a bit cramped when it is time to work behind the stove cleaning etc.
Also I built a fairly tall pad so as to clear the hot water baseboard which is a PITA when I'm working back there.
See below
Good luck and enjoy the stove!

Another Maineiac here...

I also have a 61 with shields. The dealer's installer installed the stove 1" less than required without shields and the walls were getting REAL hot. I told the dealer and they gave me a pair of shields. You dont even really notice them. They blend in real nice. Even at the minimum distance required without shields I would personally rather the shields.

I do not notice a reduction in heat output from the stove. The wall is drastically cooler though!

I don't have the shields in my corner installation (pulled it out of the corner a bit. which I would have done regardless for accessibility). The windows on either side of the stove in that corner get very warm as the sides of the stove get blazing like the top. I am considering the shields for next season. The convection blower is strong and that's how I expect to heat my home. I don't need to heat my windows/walls.

Also wondering if anyone has run both ways??

This is true:cool:

The P-61 is pretty accessible for servicing with the minimal rear distance, just have to lay on your back to get to things.

Shields here, i thinkthey finish the looks lof the stove off as they have the same scalloped pattern as the front.
