Burning Hunk

Hi

New to the thread. I have a Harman P68. Lately, I have been having a auger squeal when feeding pellets. This starting happening on the past ton of Lignetic pellets (lots of ash and fine particles) so I believe they caused the problem along with carbon build up on auger

I've search on the form and done the following:
Cleaned fines box
Mixed can of pellets with Graphite
Scraped burnpot near bottom of pot

All of this makes the squeal go away but eventually comes back.
I just purchased some ACS Spray and misted onto pellets as now. This has helped greatly but still a little squeal

What stove setting should I used for the ACS to work efficiently?
Currently I have it in Room Temp Mode with Temp setting on 5

I'm never getting the Lignetics again (green bag) as I never had a problem until now.

Thanks!

remove the rear cover and spay the auger bearing with teflon spray. If you do not know where this is located, read the owner's manual and it will show you with a very nice picture.

could also be a pellet jammed against the auger flights and the rear auger bearing....wont know this without pulling the auger

My 61a did squealed on and off for awhile and then it became constant. Did everything you mentioned and oiled the bearing best I could. Everything is sealed so its not easy to oil. It's still under warranty so the dealer came out and messed with it and I had a bad bearing. Swapped the auger and good as new.

Try cranking the heat the heat and make sure it's not carbon build up. Not sure where your from, but its warning up and if your stoves been burning on low for awhile. Carbon buils up quick.

if the squeak only happens during a specific time of the auger rotation and always at the same time it may be the slide plate possibly. It is one of the first things I look at for a squeaking harman. i just remove the slide plate, sand it off with medium or fine grit sand paper going from side to side not length ways and clean up the edges to make sure there are no burs, i use the hose from my vacuum gauge and blow out the area the slide plate rides in and put it all back together, although if you know its the auger itself this may not help.

Just curious...how does spraying teflon spray on the outside of a sealed bearing work?

Check out my signature as mentioned above. Numerous people have had good results. Lubricants only hide the squeal, they do not get rid of it. You have to find whatever is squealing, and fix it. For most people it is jammed up slide plates / auger bushings.

i live in southern maryland...seems to me that when I scrape the auger at the auger opening/bottom of the burn pot, the squeal goes away..last night it went away but after 6-7 hours it was back...i've taken a can or air and blown out the bottom of the hopper and with the vacuum on, i'll blow out the auger...I've even sprayed some ACS

i really think it has something to do with these pellets...

What settings should I do to try to burn off the carbon (if that's the issue)

It seems that you Harman folk must torture your stoves because a lot of threads on here are about noises that would come out of a medieval torture chamber. Now pay attention to Drs. Kinsman, dhal28, and Lousyweather.

im going to let the hopper empty, vaccum out and clean the slide plate (does anyone have instructions for remove slide plate?),

then im going to clean out the fine box (from my understanding and reading I should be able to reach the auger bushing from the fine box and clean/lubricate

IF its the auger bearing (and thats rare), its sealed, and likely wont help much with lubrication. Removing the slide plate might help tho.....its at the top of the rear fines box. Be sure to re-engage the armature into the slot in the plate when you put it back in, AND make sure the step side of the slide plate is UP.

Some of these squeels are actually pellet matter jammed between the auger flight and the auger bearing....but you cant see this without removing the auger. My suggestion would be to run the unit out of pellets, remove the feed motor and work the auger by hand in a clockwise/counterclockwise motion...a full revolution or two. If it is in fact this issue, you will hear the noise when you hand-manipulate the auger....seen a few of these lately.

Have you read the owners manual?

Hey, I used to pick blueberries in Washington County, they are wonderful in pies, muffins. cakes, as jam, syrup, or by the paw full.

Yup they sure are! Got a mountain here in town and the top is covered with wild high bush. Picked lots of them over the years.

There are wild high bush at camp along with blackberries, and here on the lot there are wild low bush and I planted some high bush, we also have blackberries on the lot and around the lot. I have some frozen wild blackberries awaiting a pie making session. Still have blackberry jam but are out of blueberry.
