I get a kick out of people that call a downed tree "firewood". No it ain't - its a downed tree. It takes a lot of work and time to make it firewood.

I'd take all or none. I don't do halvsies when I do all the work.

No way. 75/25. You are doing all the work.

66/33 could work out too depending on what the situation was like. Who knows, it might be in a muddy area or the logs may have been skidded in the mud, etc. Maybe you couldn't get a truck or trailer close to the wood. One would definitely have to check it out before committing.

"on ground seasoned ready to burn great ,you cut & split"
Uh....say what?
I'd cut and split my half and it would be ready to burn In a couple years. His half would be on the ground and round but "seasoned, ready to burn great".

A guy north of Pittsburgh has been advertising his desire to clean up his sugar maple grove. He wants a helper to work with him, not someone to do it all for him, and he's offering half the wood.

I think 2/3, 1/3 is the rule of thumb for an easy get...

Any idea of where he is located ?

I get this crap all the time. Being I do tree removal, right after every windstorm I get emails or facebook messages saying things like "Scott, two HUGE pine trees blew over in my moms yard last night. If you come up, cut them up, take all the wood and the branches with you, we'll give you the wood for FREE!!"....

Usually, I'll say something like "I'll come up tomorrow and give her an estimate......I'll treat you right, being you are a personal friend..."

And they come back with "Oh, OK, thanks. I was hoping someone would want to do the job for free being it's prime firewood...."

I usually hear back from them within two or three weeks saying "hey, when can you come up and give me an estimate?" ;lol;lol;lol

Again, it just kills me when somebody calls a down tree "firewood".;lol

Do these people realize that most tree services take the wood anyway unless the customer asks them not to.

And prime firewood at that!
I gotta be honest, I was driving home from work two years ago in the summer time and it was kinda dead as far as side work was concerned, when I noticed a HUGE honey locust down on a windrow of a farm that we passed on the way home from work. So I stopped and asked about it, the farmer said if you cut it, it's yours. Leave the branches in a pile and I'll burn them on the spot.....

So I went home, grabbed the saw, splitter, and truck, and went up to cut it......
Over the next two evenings I ended up with two cord of honey locust off of that tree. The farmer came out to me as I was cleaning up my tools and said "would you be interested in these other three honey locusts along this row?" Same deal.....drop 'em, buck 'em and leave the branches lay....all the wood came home with me...

Absolutely! I have 3 or 4 more threes to cut up there this summer (all HUGE honey locusts), being that I have literally NO CLEAN-UP AT ALL....I do the occasional 'freebie'........

That stuff is PRIME FIREWOOD!

I am working over a similar windrow, but it is a CL ad and the trees are mulberry instead of locust. This ad in the OP was for ST Joseph, MO just bettter than an hour away which puts it on my "too far" list. I am not sure where, but I remember reading somewhere a couple years ago, that gathering firewood in a pickup truck became "not worth it" if the trip was more than 25 miles? I wonder if that auther paid $3.50 for gas or $4.00 diesel.

I am fortunate in that I have never had to go more than a 15 minute for my firewood.

It used to be that way for me......

.....but now you have to go further because every tree that was in a 15 minute radius is already stacked in your yard.
