I responded to five or six CL ads for free wood, and finally got in on time for one. It's not huge, but I don't care. I just want to go pick up some free wood, stack it, and get going on next year's pile! Pics when I get the wood.

There it is! I traded emails with the person giving away the wood, she said she's going to be limbing a bunch of trees on her property and cutting all the dead wood. I guess she doesn't know anybody who could use it, so free for me to take. It's almost all green except for six rounds that are stove-sized but need to be split and stacked. The other stuff is all green and HEAVY. It was all I could do to move it. I could barely lift my almost-two-year-old into her crib tonight.
I think I'm going to need a chainsaw. Amazon shows a Makita electric for $200 with a 16" bar, will that do the job?
Any guesses on tree ID?
I'm guessing there is a lot of Maple there, but the "striped" pieces look like Hickory to me which also could explain the heaviness although all wood is heavy green.

Nice score! In regards to the chainsaw question, do yourself a favor and buy a gas saw. You're really limited as to where you can cut with an electric saw.......

And "buying a saw" should include at a minimum a set of kevlar chaps and a helmet with ear protection. They make saws every day. A new leg, or an ear are a little tougher to come by!
Watch some online chainsaw safety videos first. Go slow, be cautious.

You can buy one of the small Stihl saws for less than $200 and you'll be surprised how well they perform.
