os.jpgWife got me one of these for my birthday. Any vet that has seen my mushroom stump thread over in the DIY forum knows i'm a decent hand filer...one ONE side. :).
You can see the "correction" cuts on those stumps I had to make as the bar curved.

As I sharpened today, at first the stone fit like a glove and went easy and quick. Then i flipped the saw around and could only sharpen the top 1/8 inch or so of about half the cutters on that side. This was due to my hand filing inequalities, I'm sure.

Tried to go real light as I've read on here, and sharpened what I could. Chain cut suprisingly well but curved a bit still. Think i can fix cutters with repeated sharpening and fix the tooth shape.

Pros -
-Worked well at first blush, very quick. 3 minutes a side on an 18" full comp. Sorry. Just wanted to type "full comp" for once describing one of my chains...but I digress.
-easy to use after set up.
-Cheap, at 30 bucks, readily available for test drive at Lowe's.
-has a 12 V cigarette hookup or alligator clips for portability.
- different sized stones
-easy to line up large angle markings

Cons-

-has a 12 V cigarette hookup or alligator clips....ONLY. No standard cord = No sharpening on the coffee table while I watch the Pens beat the Caps.
- chuck and little wrench combo has an "erector set" vibe. Could see some struggling with it. I'm still 5 years out from bifocals, I hope. This will suck then.
- Cheap, at 30 bucks. some online reviews say it falls apart, others say it's solid. What say ye out there? Thoughtful gift from the missus, so i will cook it till it's dead.

I say get yourself a battery and put that on the coffee table so you can watch those Penns. Wings fan here but Penns look great this year and are my pick out of the Eastern Conference. Sister and family in State College so we have a good, friendly, inner family rivalry.

Another potential option??? maybe there is a plug in converter that will make DC power from a wall socket that you can plug it into?? WWW would be a good place to find one I think :)

***UPDATE***
Lots of them on the cheap. I think I need one for my spot light to veiw deer in the back yard!

Never tried one of these, but when I first got my HF grinder, one side of the chain sharpened very nicely...the other side took a few sharpenings to get back to the correct angle and size. I could have ground them down all at once, but it felt like I was wasting a lot of steel. After about 3 sharpenings they all my chains are nice and even again...and cut much better.

As for the 12VDC power supply issue...you can pick up a power converter pretty cheap...or put the TV in your truck. Your call on that one.

Thanks - should be able to get something like that. Wings and pens had some great cup finals. Wings are one of the best organizations in sports - the Steelers of the hockey world LOL...

hahaha...yeah, I'm too cheap to grind the heck out of it. Got some dirty locust to do up so I'll be grindin' away anyway.

The clips or the dc socket is nice. I have mine with me all the time when cutting. Just plug it into the atv and sharpening is quick and easy.
