Well folks,

I'm finally secure in my neighborhood name: "wood nut." :p

I've got 6.2 cords of wood by my calculations....my early stacked were entirely criss-crossed in order to promote maximum drying time, and my later stacks were stacked regular. I have one more "row" to collect/split and when all is said and done, and once I get through my first year of the criss-crossed stacks, I'll have ~8 cords of wood on a regular basis. Which should be great for my 1957, one story, 1974 sq. ft. home in lower CT.

It's taken me some time to figure out my way of doing things, but I think I've got my system 99% down these days:

7-ton electric splitter, and stool to sit on and a wheelbarrow. And the occasional wedge/sledge to breakup huge stuff.

Gone is the Fiskars splitting axe (broke one, got a warranty replacement to sell) and the old tire to split wood, but that way of splitting was good while it lasted (pain in my hands from the shock. I only have one fully functioning hand).

My little refurb 16in Husky chainsaw has been wonderful and has gone through everything I needed except for the tree trunks I stupidly took on (borrowed a friend's 70cc husky with 28in bar). I'm glad I got that light of a saw... man are those big saws heavy to use all day!

Anyway I wanted to thank everyone for their continued help...now that it's spring, it's time to hunt for a deal on a Blaze King Princess Insert!!!

Welcome to the forum. You seem to be well ahead of wood collection. Where in CT are you? I am in Trumbull. Have you been on the Parkway lately and seen all the wood they are processing?

Yes I've seen all the clearing, but they don't let u touch it or pull off the road. (Norwalk)

True, shame to see all those BTU's go to waste

I like making the vids too! Screw typing!!!

Nice stacks!

Off season should be a good time to shop for a stove. Hope you find one at a good price.

Most of your wood should be good to go.
Great planning.

Good work Bster!

Great work to get ahead Bster! Best wishes w/the stove hunt; should be the discount season as winter is winding down for the most part.

Thats pretty impressive in such little time. I can see how your neighbors would call you wood nut. you went on a rampage but hey, this is what we do man. Welcome to the loony bin. !!!

To not have your stove yet? You are WAY ahead of the curve!!

And to have LOTS of good wood going into next season? And wanting Alien technology (read:Blaze King).

By my guesstimate- With 6-7 Cord and owning a BK in the Future? You have enough wood to last 15.2 yrs ;lol

Congrats on the new splitter and you are on your way to an enjoyable wood burning experience. :)

Going to Fireplaces Etc. in Milford, CT this coming weekend to try and negotiate a deal (perhaps on their BK princess insert floor model?). Any tips? (Will need the stove plus install with chimney liner. *gulp*

Neighborhood wood nut...I like that title...well earned I say! LOL. Great job on planning ahead.

You've come a long way in a short time with those stacks. The BK Princess is pretty popular here.....have fun shopping:cool:

Don't get me wrong. Hand splitting 4 of those cords just about killed me, and while I ~really~ enjoy splitting (weird, isn't, it?), I won't have to put in nearly this effort in the future as I'm almost two years ahead (I hope, for my 1974 sq. ft. home).

Just reread my first post, I'm around 7 cords now, will hopefully be at 8 soon. But what worries me is all the oak in my stacks. I'll be picking through my stacks all next burning season, setting the oak aside. Not sure how that will go.

That was a concern when I started stacking, so I made sure to stack by species and when I put them up.

Well too late for that! :p Every once in awhile I'll have part of a pile fall over and I have to restack a bit. No way I'm restacking all those cords AND my newbie self probably will not guess the correct type of wood when separating all the time as the wood isn't even in rounds anymore. hehe.

Oh come on! Practice makes perfect. Lol
