a little birch on the very left but some white oak and red oak in the pile, mostly tops that came down in the blizzard with pines.

Sandy oak. This had a old rotten section 3 or 4 feet off the ground that had earthworms in it. I've found earthworms in the wood stacks before and figured they were left by a bird, but I guess they climb.
This has carpenter ants in the trunk, haven't cut it up yet to find out how much wood I don't have, but the tops are done. This is on a pretty steep hill so I won't be moving it with hydraulics to cut it or get it to the pile.

another red oak, but this one has no carpenter ants. This one actually lost it's two tops in a nasty ugly thunderstorm last August. Got 2/3 cord from the two tops. This was left.

... and the splitting pile grows .....

That's about it for oak. One white oak I have to go back and look at again. I don't think there's enough tops left to leave the rest of it standing.

Next I'll clean up some maple. Not my favorite as they split and crack and try to bite back.

Then do something with too many pines ......

looks like black birch at that. Other than White Ash, fewer wood species I'd prefer to have as someone who splits by hand.

Nice haul Bill, at least something good comes out of these storms.

If I could Id have nothing but black birch in my stacks, high btu's, easy to split, fairly clean wood and the splits are usually straight so I can load the box up nice and full.

We just lost power again over Sandy damage. A huge poplar, 125+ ft, had been pushed over onto another tree. Ugly hanger at about 30 degrees. Well rain and wind and time finished her off and she came down taking all wires, 3 poles and a transformer with her. Power outages are so routine anymore is doesn't raise an eyebrow.

Nice score.
Will you get it split & stacked before summer heat?

Kinda have to. It'll be in my way otherwise.
That pile is within reach of the extension cord for the splitter.
I split into a wheelbarrow or the lawn tractor cart to minimize handling.
I can split with a drop light if I have to as it's right aside the garage.
