Today I put in my order for a PE T5 which the dealer had reduced by $500--had been on the floor for two weeks because another customer backed out of their order and dealer wanted to move it out. I am really looking forward to it since my old CDW is beginning to leak some ash or old cement from a couple of the seams. Hoping that the T5 will work as well as everyone says.

With my $1000 trade-out voucher and the $300 tax credit I will get eventually--I am good to go. It should be in the week of Feb. 15

I want to thank everyone on this forum who gave me advice over the past few weeks. It has been quite a learning curve and a great experience. What an amazing wealth of information and so many people willing to share their knowledge down to the smallest detail--wish I had a forum like this for all the other important decisions I obsess over!!

You are gonna love that wood stove.

??? Don't you mean April 15

That's ok just wanted to make sure. We all make typos I certainly have had my share;)

Enjoy the new stove and take some pictures.

Congrats you will enjoy that stove ;) My home is a comfy 72 degrees as I type this.. Look forward to the pics!

Dyerkutn - are you saying you get a $500 discount + $300 tax refund + $1000 trade-out = $1800 towards a new stove? Holy crap. That's sweet. FWIW my final choices were Osburn or PE -the Osburn won out on price.

Yeah--the original price was $2425--the dealer wanted to get it off the floor. The state of MA is having a trade-out---preEPA stove for an EPA stove. And when I file my 2013 taxes the fed will give a 10% rebate on the cost of stove and installation--which will be approaching $3000 since part of the pipe will need to be replaced. I still have to lay out the initial amount--

My next step is to become a large wood consumer. I am not a do-it-yourselfer like a lot of people on this forum, and have only been getting about one cord a year, but with the new possibility of heating more with wood than oil I will need lots more wood delivered, dumped onto my driveway and stacked in the back of my house. I guess I will have to go over to the wood forum for advice!

OK--before and after!!

I wish I had it now. I ran out of wood and my old stove is coming apart at the seams and I am freezing--cold weather is holding out longer than I thought. So I have my oil forced-air heat on. Hoping to make the life-style change to more wood than oil next winter.

Again so greatful to this forum for getting me through this process.

You will hear one voice there. Get your wood and stack it now. If possible for next season avoid oak, unless you are planning for the following season. It takes 2-3 yrs to dry out.

that is mostly what we get around here--I will switch to the wood forum and see if anyone knows of a good source in my area

Where you at in the Boston area?

One town over from me (Lincoln). If you can line up some local scrounges, I'll help out. Likewise, if I get something set up and need help, happy to share the work.

Plan on 3-4 cords a year if burning 24/7..

Buy a moisture meter if you are going to buy the wood already split and delivered, that will at least let you know what you are dealing with.

Might be wise to buy a couple cords of kiln dried wood for the first year.

Mellow--this is fantastic--just what I needed. I will start the rounds of calling immediately. And thanks for the tip on the moisture meter.

I can tell you one seller on that list that you should avoid. There is a kiln dried dealer on there that I used in 2011 that has great wood, but has jacked the price up beyond being worth it.

Congrats on the T5! I just had mine delivered yesterday! I will set up the install after I burn through my dang taxes....ugh.
Great info here from many great people! I have about 3 cords so far, some split and a LOT not yet. I am ordering 2 seasoned and 2 green cords of oak this week and will rotate and mix what I split. Watch it go instantly to summer now! Enjoy!

Yeah TCH--I would love to hear how you like your T5--I am also hoping for a little more cool spring to try mine out once it is installed--which I hope will be the week after next. I will be spending the weekend calling around for wood availability and prices and collecting palletts whereever I can find them to stack it on. When you say green do you mean newish or literally just felled?
