Got two saws running today :)

Was fairly nice outside today so had the kids riding bikes in and out of the garage so I could get a chance to tinker a bit on the saws.

Got a Echo CS-340 free from a tree guy here in town, had a broken mount and hadn't run for about 3 years. Got the new mount off ebay, installed today (after some head scratching.... took it apart and left it on the bench for about a month before I had to chance to try putting it back together again ), new gas and boom, fired up!

Another freebie, got a Jonsered 630 a while back that I've been slowly working on and is pretty much complete now. Had installed a new carb kit about a month ago, tried firing it and had some problems. Hard to start without choke and once started, no control (just wanted to scream). Posted up on arboristsite, guy suggested air leak. Got a chance to tear it down today and found the gasket between the carb and the cylinder had dropped down off of one bolt. DOH. Put it back together properly, fired up nice and easy and seems to run strong (still haven't cut with it). Just have to learn how to tune a carb properly from some of the posts on here and I'll be good to go.

Also, used the last of the firewood from the pile here at the house today, will have to go raid the pile in the bush tomorrow. All in all, a pretty good day, just wanted to share since I haven't posted on hearth for a while!

Tried to tune the carb but even after listening to yours, not really sure what to go for. Think I have the L side down (went to two extremes to get it stuttering then set it roughly in the middle) but sort of sketchy with the H side. Don't want to be running it too lean and burn the thing up.

So, tried a video, let me know if it sounds ok...

That sure sounded, and looked, pretty good to me ................... but its hard to tell without hearing you run the "H" screw through its "zone" to listen to where you ended up. I don't have a tach either, so I just make sure I'm somewhere on the "rich side of the slope" slightly off the peak RPMs, then run it as you did to see how it cuts.

I know I rum on the rich side too.... But better safe than sorry.

Took the Jonsered up today to finish bucking up the tree in the video above and now having some new problems

Cut off 5 rounds or so and once the saw warmed up, it started stalling. Left it for a bit and split some rounds, fired back up but again, would die once it got hot. Any ideas on what I should check now?

Ignition. Check it for spark while cutting if possible. The cheap $5 neon in-line spark testers work well for this. (I pick 'em up @ Harbor Freight)

Or you can try to check it as soon as it dies. The spark will be noticeably weak or non-existant.

Tried the spark tester out today, seems to be the same strength spark at the start all the way until it warms up and dies.





Was smoking a bit after it got warmed, noticed it more today since the cover was off (sort of tough to see). Not sure if it's normal, guess the saw sat in the shed for years before I got it, maybe just burning old junk/oil off?





Finally, after shutdown, noticed it started ticking (once every few seconds)





Noticed one other thing while testing today. Found an old thread on arboristsite that suggested cracking the gas cap to relieve vacuum in the tank. Tried it and it fired right back up and cut for a while longer before stalling again eventually. Going to do more searching for what that means, but just thought I'd update on here too.

Tank vent is plugged.

Your first video shows a definite ignition issue as the spark drops out intermittently. Either the plug is fouled or the coil is weak. But I would fix that tank vent first and see where you get after that.
