maple this morning

this is the damaged tree......its comeing down soon as we get the already fell limbs cleaned up

2 pics below are of some wood i cut this morning...just a couple limbs from the above tree...its one limby tree..

Those cleanup jobs are really fun. I have a few here myself. On the grass so every twig needs to get picked up. By May 3rd when apple trees are in bloom the grass is 8-10" long already. All brush needs to be up by then. You have the luxury of getting right up to the wood, though.

Good luck on that beast steeltown. Be aware it might also be hollow and also make sure all the widow makers are down before you cut it. Those would not feel good falling on your head. Also looks like there are some needs to come off the other tree too. Man, I hate cutting trees that are out in the open because of all the limbs and sometimes the tree gets a twisted grain.

yeah gonna have to cut out those hanging limbs before felling this big ol maple.....and yes she is twisted pretty good.....tough splitting but nothing like the sycamore i cut all last year....

scotty u will get split pictures and maybe some stacked pics, but im not sure about neat stacks....lots of knots and pretty narly wood....gonna make an ugly stacking job.

luke beleive it or not this is my every job saw...ms 460 magnum...tried to use a smaller 250 for limbing but just seems like i have a toy in my hand when i use it

Well, Red Maple was going to be my guess but I couldn't tell for sure. If you've never tried it, I think you'll like it. I got some last year...yard tree so it was tough to split, even with a splitter. It was soaking wet, water squishing out when splitting, stacked in June, yet it was getting pretty dry by winter. Not the longest-burning wood, probably about like the Sycamore, but I like the way it burns. I used probably two thirds of a cord this season.

I like burning soft maple... which is handy, because there's a ton of species in my area that fall under the "soft" maple label.
